The 2015 William Hill Greyhound Derby Semi Finals
Published on 17/06/15
Greyhound punters have plenty to get stuck into this weekend with Romford and Sunderland live on Friday evening and Wimbledon live on Saturday featuring the Derby Plate heats and the Champion Hurdle Heats, it is however the 2015 William Hill Greyhound Derby Semi-Finals that take centre stage with the races at 8.33 and 8.51 live on Racing Post Greyhound TV.
On Friday evening we have Romford Greyhound Tips with an all open race card. The Romford Friday Night 500 Maiden Stayers Final at 9.24 is the feature race and with litter mates Teejays Porsche (T1) and Teejays Panther (T2) lining up against each other it should be a cracker. The key to this race is simply the break, whichever ‘Teejays’ manages to lead into the first bend will be very hard to beat, they both performed very well on six bend debut last Friday and with improvement likely they could be a pair to follow over the next couple of months over the shorter six bend trips. Don’t rule out Coolavanny Ester from T6, the wide seed would have a chance on the bunny and if the littler mates hold each other up at the first bend that could hand the advantage to Ester in the striped jacket.
The PGT Free Friday tip runs a little later in the 10.26 from T3, Clondoty Alex is the selection. The Mark Wallis trained son of Razldazl Jayfkay is blessed with electric early pace and if he puts that to good use and leads this field he will be very hard to beat. The key to the race as ever over the 400 meter trip at Romford will be the break, we need ‘Alex’ to smash out and kick for home down the back straight.
PGT FREE FRIDAY TIP – CLONDOTY ALEX (T3)
Saturday – Wimbledon live on Racing Post Greyhound TV
The first semi-final at 8.33 is a cracker, Farloe Blitz is the likely leader from T2 but with Rio Quattro (T1) and Eden The Kid (T3) in the race and both likely to turn handy it will be interesting to see whether the three quick runs inside seven days will have taken there toll and this race will prove to be the acid test for the Irish early paced runner from the McKenna kennel.
The second semi-final at 8.51 looks wide open with Paradise Maverik (T1), Lenson Sanchez (T4) Tynwald Bish (T5) and Viking Jack (T6) all capable of putting in a huge run and this race looks likely to be decided on the break and run into the first bend. The selection based on a plot draw will is Paradise Maverik, the Irish raider from the Pat Buckley kennel was very impressive in his quarter final on Tuesday evening and will take all the beating on Saturday from the inside draw in a race full of middle and wide seeds.
Notable runners in the Champion Hurdle on Saturday night include Razldazlnewstalk (T1, 9.08), Cornamaddy Jumbo (T6, 9.24) and Jetstream Reason from T1 in the final heat at 9.40.
