US PGA Championship Ante-Post Golf Betting Guide

With the first 3 Major golf tournaments of 2015 already won, it’s time to turn our ante-post attentions to the fourth and final one – the US PGA Championship, which will be played at Whistling Straits between Thursday 13th August and Sunday 16th August.

The course hosted the US PGA in 2004 and 2010 which were respectively won by Vijay Singh and Martin Kaymer, whilst the leaderboards were littered with quality players, many of whom give it a whack off the tea.

In 2004, Vijay Singh and Justin Leonard were 4 shots and 3 shots respectively clear of the chasing pack and, though they both tried to give it away with poor last rounds, Vijay Singh eventually triumphed.

In 2010, it was the turn of Nick Watney to throw it away as he shot a last round 81 after holding a 3 shot lead heading into the final 18 holes. Martin Kaymer eventually won it in a play-off from Bubba Watson, though it will be remembered for the 2 shot penalty Dustin Johnson received for grounding his club in what he thought was a sandy wasteland, but was actually one of the biggest bunkers in the world.

The 2015 winner could easily be the ever-improving and impressive Jordan Spieth, though Dustin Johnson would be a popular winner after his 2010 exploits. However neither look value bets at this stage – so the question is who does?

Jason Day 1.5 points each-way @ 25/1 (Paddy Power, Stan James)

The 27-year-old Aussie is only interested in the majors but, despite yet another placing in the Open Championship, his maiden major title eludes him. He was 10th here in 2010 though when still relatively inexperienced – and he’ll no doubt be focusing his efforts again in a tournament he’s already finished 10th, 8th and 15th in.

Bubba Watson 1.5 points each-way @ 33/1 (Betway)

Bubba seemed to relish using his shot-making skills to try and tame this course in 2010, and he may well have his sights on going one better than he did then. Certainly got the talent, and he often plays well at the same courses. He’s no 33/1 shot in my opinion.

Brooks Koepka 1 point each-way @ 66/1 (Betfred, William Hill)

I’ll be amazed if this big-hitting 25-year-old doesn’t bag a major in the next 5 years. In his last 6 major appearances he’s finished 4/67/15/33/18/10 – and this course should be perfect for his talents.

Nick Watney 1 point each-way @ 150/1 (BetVictor)

If you believe in karma then you have to give Watney a chance to atone for his horrific last round here in 2010. He remains capable of putting big tournament performances together and could be a lively outsider.
