Thomas In Tune For Sony – Golf Betting Tips

Last weekend’s roller-coaster ride on 300/1 shot Christian Bezuidenhout certainly made for an interesting start to 2016 on the golf betting front, and I’m still agonising over not trading him in running. Still, one shouldn’t complain at collecting on the each-way parts of 300/1 and 60/1 selections from just 4 tips.

Justin Thomas Golf

This week, the PGA Tour takes in the Sony Open where I’m recommending 4 selections, whilst I’m also recommending 1 selection for the European Tour’s Joburg Open.

Sony Open

1.5 points each-way Justin Thomas @ 28/1 (Betfred) 5 places ¼ odds

Having won his first tournament, the 22-year-old should soon be winning again. He put himself in the limelight here last year with opening rounds of 67 and 71, but was a little dazzled by the spotlight as he shot two 70’s over the weekend to finish 6th. With that maiden tour victory under his belt, the spotlight shouldn’t bother him any more – and a bold bid is expected.

1.5 points each-way Jimmy Walker @ 14/1 (Skybet, Paddy Power, Stan James) 6 places ¼ odds

Having won the tournament in both 2014 and 2015, Walker has proved he can handle the course, and he looked to have mastered it last year with a runaway 9-shot victory margin. He’s perhaps not in quite that good a form coming into it, but Walker has struck early in the past two seasons, and will be keen to chalk-up another early victory in Ryder Cup year. With 6 places available, there looks to be plenty of juice in the 14/1.

0.5 points each-way Peter Malnati @ 90/1 (Bet365) 5 places ¼ odds

At 28, Malnati may not have the star quality of Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas but, with his maiden tour victory under his belt, he’s expected to post plenty of high finishes this season. He was 6th here last year, and was 6th at last week Hyundai.

0.5 points each-way Zac Blair @ 125/1 (Skybet, Stan James) 6 places ¼ odds

At just 5’6″, Blair may lack the power of some of his peers, but this is a course that offers the shorter-hitters a genuine chance of success. He finished tied 6th alongside Malnati and Thomas last year, but was one of the slower starters with an opening 71. However, he then shot rounds of 66, 64 and 67, and could well challenge with 4 good rounds.

Joburg Open

Like most South African events, the field is full of familiar names who’ve either been there and done it or nearly been there and done it so, though we nearly pulled-off a 300/1 sting last week, the 50/1 about Christiaan Bezuidenhout still looks worth chancing. The young man looked cool under pressure, but just couldn’t hole enough puts, and I imagine he’ll notch-up more wins than most players in this field over the next few years.

1 point each-way Christiaan Bezuidenhout @ 50/1 (Paddy Power) 7 places 1/5 odds
