Stenson Set For Second Players Championship: Golf Betting Tips

It’s time for the Players Championship at a Sawgrass arena that’s famous for it’s short par-3 17th which is renowned for costing countless players the title as they get greedy or fail to judge the wind before dumping their tee shot to the island green in the water.

The 18th is also strewn with water, so don’t get too excited before your player is at least on the final green. But, whatever the result, this is always one of the most exciting golf tournaments to watch – and a bet makes it all that more exciting.

Henrik Stenson 2 points each-way @ 20/1(Skybet) 1/4 odds 7 places

The Swede won this title in 2009 and has posted three top-5s in nine appearances. An early exit from last week’s matchplay should have given him plenty of time to prepare well for this, and he played some great golf in the Florida Swing earlier in the season. His tee-to-green play is as good as anyone’s and he just needs a few putts to go in to collect his second title.

Ben Crane 0.5 points each-way @ 275/1 (Bet365) 1/4 odds 6 places

At the other end of the scale, I can’t resist a small EW bet on Ben Crane at big odds. He loves this tournament and has posted three top-6 finishes in his last seven attempts.

Morgan Hoffmann 0.5 points each-way @ 150/1 (Coral) 1/4 odds 5 places

The youngster has yet to win a PGA Event but, having won a junior title at Sawgrass, he again showed his liking for the course with an excellent 17th placed finish on last year’s Players debut.

David Hearn 1 point top 10 @ 16/1 and 2 points top-20 @ 13/2 (BetFred)

The accurate Canadian has finished 26th and 6th the last two years and, though I doubt he’s quite got the experience to win yet, he can claim another good finish.

Spencer Levin 1 point top-20 @ 22/1 (Betfred)

I doubt Levin will be a name on many people’s lists this week, but the steady yet unspectacular journeyman has twice finished in the top-15 here. He’s also had two top-20 finishes in 16 events this season and looks value to hit the top-20 again.

  1. I like the look of Justin Rose at 25/1 with coral. The Ben Crane tip looks interesting too – might have to drop a couple of quid on that!

  2. Tiger Woods to forget his relationship troubles and come back with a bang! Or if that fails… Jimmy Walker looks good at 33s :)
