Max It Up: Open De Espana & Wells Fargo Free Golf Tips

Both the European and PGA Tours are of interest this week with the Open de Espana and Wells Fargo Tournament offering some tasty looking golf betting tips

Open de Espana

Plenty of the short-priced runners have obvious claims, but there is a trio of players at three-figure prices that really catch the eye in Max Kieffer, Thomas Pieters and Alejandro Canizares who all have some solid course form on their CVs.

Max Kieffer 0.5 points each-way @ 110/1 (Bet365) and 1 point @ 10/1 (BetVictor)

The young German has played at this quirky venue just twice, finishing 2nd and 5th. He’s also been in good form recently with 4 top-30s in his last 5 events.

Thomas Pieters 0.5 points each-way @ 110 (Coral) and 1 point top-10 @ 12/1 (BetVictor)

Though woefully inconsistent, the young Dane is capable of some fantastic performances including when losing out in a play-off on his debut in this event last year – and he has all the tools to win a European Tour event this season.

Alejandro Canizares 0.5 points each-way @ 125/1 (Various) and 1 point top-10 @ 11/1 (Paddy Power)

The Spaniard has never quite reached the heights his all-round game made me believe he would, but he still hits the frame several times a season, and had some stunning early season form. Three missed-cuts have to be overlooked, but he has three top-7s here in the last 5 years.

Wells Fargo

Previous Champion Rory McIlroy could easily win this powerhouse test in his stride however, at a best-priced 7/2, I’m happy to let him go. Instead, I’m going to side with the last two champions JB Holmes and Derek Ernst.

J Holmes 1 point each-way @ 33/1 (Stan James – 6 places)

JB Holmes is one of the biggest power houses on the PGA Tour, and has been in much more consistent form this year than when taking this title last year. McIlroy may well take plenty of the Press spotlight away from him – and he’s capable of giving them all a run for your money.

Derek Ernst 0.5 points each-way @ 300/1 (Betfred) and 1 point top-20 @ 16/1 (Stan James)

Derek Ernst sprang an enormous shock when winning this 2 years ago but, being a local boy, he’s got more experience of the course than most. In finishing 30th last year he also put up his second best performance of the season and, having already posted a 17th placed finish this season, a top-20 at least could be on the cards.

  1. The course form for your Tip Max Keiffer is incorrect. The last time the Spanish Open was contended on this course was 2011,so unfortunately your course form stats go out the window!!
