Golf Betting Tips: Moon To Shine On Riviera

This week’s European Tour Event, The Indian Hero Open, looks too tough a nut to crack – and I much prefer our chances at the Northern Trust Open as the PGA Tour event offers plenty of course form to get our teeth into.

The tournament takes place at the prestigious Riviera Golf Club, where the prerequisites to success are often long driving and a well-tuned putter, and it’s no surprise that the likes of Bubba Watson and Phil Mickleson have won there.

Last year’s Champion Watson looks to have every chance of defending – however at 12/1 there looks to be much value bets in the field.

Read our golf betting tips and analysis below:

JB Holmes 1 point each-way @ 40/1 (Bet365) and 2 points top-10 finish @ 4/1 (Betfred)

The big-hitter has been in excellent form of late, finishing 2nd at Torrey Pines and 10th at Pebble Beach, and those were two courses at which he hadn’t overly shone at before. Here at Riviera he’s posted four top-8 finishes in seven years and also finished 12th once. His power-fade is ideally suited to many of Riviera’s holes – and his outright and top-10 odds look juicy.

Charlie Beljan 0.5 points each-way @ 80/1 (various) and 2 points top-10 finish @ 7/1 (Bet365, Betfred, Coral)

Another big-hitter, and one who could have easily won this event on his tournament debut in 2012, when he finished runner-up to John Merrick. Perhaps put a little too much pressure on himself last year, but still finished 12th. His 3rd placed finish at Pebble Beach last week came out of the blue after finishes of MC/66/MC – but hopefully he’s peaking perfectly for the tournament he says he loves the most out of all the ones played on the PGA Tour.

Sang Moon Bae 0.5 points each-way @ 70/1 (Bet365) and 2 points top-10 finish @ 8/1 @ Betfred

The 28-year-old seems to have been around for a while but has only played 86 PGA Tour events, winning two of them. He’s also recorded a further five top-10s. In 2013 he recorded a win, with his only other top-10 finish (8th) coming here. In 2014, which was a poor year for him, his highest place finish of the season was 12th here. This season, in just 7 events, he has already won an event and recorded 5th and 6th place finishes – and big things are expected back at one of his favourite venues.

Story of last week

A loss of 7.9 points doesn’t really tell the whole story – and I’m still feeling the pain of Chesson Hadley’s last hole double-bogey on the easiest hole at Pebble Beach. Even a bogey would have landed our 16/1 top-10 bet on him – but all he could manage was an 8-way tie for 10th place.

Renato Parratore also started brightly in Malaysia, 8-under par after 15 holes, yet somehow threw it all away and finished out with the washing.

  1. I backed Hadley and Parratore, not for the advised top 10 finishes, but on the outright markets, due to the enormity of their prices. Your advice was superb, as both players made fantastic starts, and their prices ended up a tenth of what I backed them at, leaving me oceans of room for laying, which I did, and ended up over £600 up on the pair. Well done, truly inspired tips. I will look to repeat the trick, with todays selections.

  2. Hi,
It looks like lightening does strike the same place twice with Sang Moon Bae bogeying the final hole.
    That’s gambling though.
    Regards,

  3. Hi Allen, yeah there’s a few dents in my coffee table where I banged my head into it a few times. Still, a 3.5 points profit on the event – though another 15 or so wouldn’t have gone amiss!!!!
