Luiten Can Fly High In Turkish Airlines Open

Twelve months ago, Victor Dubuisson held off a star-studded line-up that included Tiger Woods, Justin Rose, Ian Poulter and Henrik Stenson to win the inaugural Turkish Airlines Open.

But, whilst this year’s penultimate Race to Dubai event is lacking the likes of Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods and Justin Rose, their absence means Dubuisson may get too much attention from the paparazzi this week to give his defence his maximum concentration.

Meanwhile, Poulter and Stenson return again this week, though it’s hard to argue that either is in as good a form as at this time last year – but we do have some strong fancies and a selection of golf betting tips this week:

2 points each-way Joost Luiten @ 30/1

Luiten never really hit the leaderboard last year but went into the notebook for this year as, though he started slowly, he posted a strong weekend with rounds of 65 and 67. He has also been showing some great form recently – hitting the top-5 in four of his last six events, including a victory in the Welsh Open. His form figures coming into this event last year were 24/51/78 – and it’s easy to see him improving on his 18th placed finish last year.

1 point each-way Mark Warren @ 66/1

Another player who came into this event last year in poor form, but played well, is Mark Warren. The Scot’s 2013 pre-tournament figures were 105/35/116/67 – yet managed to finish 7th. His form figures coming into the tournament this year read 25/21/43/35, whilst he has been in good form for much of the season – posting three top-5 finishes including a win in Denmark.

1 point Mark Foster Top-10 @ 16/1

Mark Foster didn’t make the Race to Dubai last year, but makes his course debut in reasonable form 11/4/3/69. His 69th two weeks ago may just have been the fallout of three weeks in contention and, having not played last week, may arrive here refreshed enough to post another good week. The 200/1 outright was tempting but the 16/1 for a top-10 looks better value.

1 point Raphael Jacquelin Top Frenchman @ 10/1

With so many of his fellow countrymen hitting the headlines this year, Raphael Jacquelin’s 5th placed finish in last year’s event seems to have been overlooked, and 10/1 in a field of only six runners looks a value punt.

2 points Alejandro Canizares Top-20 @ 7/1

Alejandro Canizares started the final round here last year in contention for the title – but blew-up, eventually finishing 18th. Since winning in Morocco this season, he has suffered with injuries, but often plays well on this type of tree-lined track and at this time of year, and is worth a speculative punt to show a bit of form.

*Story of last week*

I hoped you followed our advice last week and banked on Bubba Watson who, after holing his bunker shot on the last for an eagle, and winning the resulting play-off, secured us a tasty 44 points profit on the event.

Let’s hope out golf betting tips are as profitable this week!
