Golf Betting Tips: DJ Can Improve His Record At Doral

The first World Golf Championship of the year brings together most of the world’s best golfers, and the WGC Cadillac is once again being staged at Doral, its home since 2007.

Doral’s Blue Monster course is 7,481 yards, and was revamped prior to the 2014 renewal. The changes have made the course much tougher and last year’s winning score was just 4-under par compared to 19-under par the previous year.

Length off the tee was last year’s most important statistic with most of those who finished high on the leaderboard ranked in the top-10 for driving distance, though it was Patrick Reeds’s putting that arguably won him last year’s title.

golf betting tipsRory McIlroy, no surprise, is favourite and having won his first WGC last season he will be keen to quickly add a second one to his CV. However, he’s only once made the frame here once in six attempts and I’ll reluctantly pass on him this week.

Much more intriguing at the prices are three fellow big-hitters, and you can read this week’s golf betting tips below.

Dustin Johnson 2 points each-way 22/1 (Betfred and Stan James)

Dustin Johnson is a man on a mission after taking an “I like to party too much” sabbatical, but that hasn’t stopped him putting in some exceptional performances already this season. 4th at Pebble Beach was followed by a play-off loss at Riviera, and you can forget last week’s missed cut as he hates the course at PGA National. Much more pertinent is the fact he’s hit the frame twice here in the last four years and I expect his to record a win very soon.

Bubba Watson 2 points each-way @ 16/1 (various)

Bubba needs little introduction and the dual Masters Champion will surely lift this title soon. He’s twice finished runner-up in the last three years and looks to be coming into the tournament in just as good a nick this year. He was second in the Phoenix Waste Management Open for the second successive year a few weeks ago, and his 14th placed finish at Riviera two weekends ago was a stout defence of the title he won the year before. He skipped last week’s event to be fresh for this, and he just has to be backed.

Jamie Donaldson 1 point each-way @ 45/1 (Bet365)golf betting tips

The Welshman showed his old swagger last week for the first time since holing the winning putt at last year’s Ryder Cup and, whilst it was a tough tournament last week, he finished strongly suggesting he might just be peaking for a tournament in which he finished second last year.

A top-5 finish for any of our three selections guarantees us at least our money-back – and all have great chances of lifting the trophy.

Story of last week

One of the toughest tournaments I can remember in a long while with the likes of Rory McIlroy missing the cut by a country mile, however we managed to scrape a 2-point profit thanks to the sterling endeavours of Luke Donald who landed our top-10 bet on him.
