Golf Betting Tips: Clark Has South African Spark

There are two limited field tournaments this week, The Nedbank challenge in South Africa and The Hero World Challenge in Florida. Both events feature some of the finest golfers in the world – and we’ve got a golf betting tip for both of them.

Nedbank Challenge

Three past winners line-up in Thomas Bjorn, Martin Kaymer and Lee Westwood whilst home favourites Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel sit near the head of the market, along with Jamie Donaldson who finished runner-up last year on his first look at this 7,800 yard course.

Despite Donaldson’s good debut showing, debutant winners of this event are few and far between, which is a really interesting statistic when you consider that 17 of the 30 string field are debutants.

With that in mind, I’d much sooner back a player with plenty of course experience and the one that I really fancy to at least reach a place is Tim Clark.

Clark has made four appearances here finishing 12/6/3/2, and has returned from a long spell of injuries in fine form and looking motivated.

Although a 7,800 yard course may appear long for a short driver like Clark, his accuracy from the tee, and from 150 yards in, gives him an excellent chance to notch up a victory. This is also a venue where Jim Furyk, who often plays well at the same courses as Clark, is a previous dual champion.

Clark’s recent form is solid too, finishing runner-up to Bubba Watson in China when Watson snatched almost certain victory away from him by holing his bunker shot at the last – hopefully compensation awaits!

2 points each-way Tim Clark @ 20/1 (1/4 odds 4 places)

Hero World Challenge

All eyes will be on Tiger Woods this week as he returns to action this week as host of a tournament he’s won on five occasions in its 15-year-history.

In a field of just 18-runners, the chance to back Woods at 16/1 would have seemed incredible a short-while ago, but he returns from injury with yet another new coach (Chris Como) and it remains to be seen whether he will ever recapture former glories.

The tournament also switches venues to Isleworth Golf & Country Club, where both Woods and Bubba Watson are members.

The course has hosted the Tavistock Cup where Webb Simpson (not playing) took the honours in March 2013 from Graeme McDowell (16/1) – notably two US Open winners.

Last week’s Australian Open winner Jordan Spieth (10/1) also won a college event at Isleworth, but so did Chris Kirk earlier in his career and he’s two and half times the prices of his younger fellow countryman at 25/1. He’s also overpriced on his 2014 form which saw him win two of his 28 PGA Tour events.

2 points each-way Chris Kirk @ 25/1 (1/5 odds 4 places)

Double Trouble

With the limited fields this week, I can’t see much value in the top-10 and top-20 markets, and a little double on our two outright picks, Clark and Kirk, is recommended. The place double pays 35/1 with the win double paying 525/1.

Double: Clark @ 20/1 and Kirk @ 25/1

Story of last week

Ageing Aussie Rod Pampling did us a favour last week as he landed both our top-10 and top-20 bets for a 12 point profit on the week, and helped us to a 52 point profit for November.
