BMW International Open Golf Preview

If you’re wading through past renewals of this contest, then you need to take note that this year’s venue Golf Club Gut Larchenoff hosted the 2012 and 2014 renewals of this events, and not the years in between.

Meanwhile, the other big consideration is whether you think that the players who played in those monstrously tough conditions in the US Open last week will be too knackered to give it their all here, or will they be relieved to get back to a golf course with a natural degree of difficulty.

That quandary especially applies to Danny Willett and Henrik Stenson, who are the two form horses in the field. Personally, whilst the 10/1 about either of them is fair value, I think they’ll struggle to be at their very best this week – and have decided to look for bigger value elsewhere.

Tyrell Hatton 1 point each-way @ 33/1 (Various Bookies) ¼ odds 5 places

The fiery young Englishman is top of my list this week, as he could well be the next English Player to take a big step forward once he wins his first European Tour event. His 22nd here in 2014 was a fair performance on his first look at the track, and recent form figures of 5/7/20 suggest he’s in the sort of form that should see him go close.

Fabrizio Zanotti 1 point each-way @ 80/1 (Betfred, Stan James) ¼ odds 5 places

The 2014 Champion looks to be a decent price this week considering he also finished 12th here in 2012. Add in the fact that he’s finished in the top-10 in 2 of his last 4 events, and it’s not hard to see him being around the top of the leaderboard come weekend.

Nicholas Colsaerts 1 point each-way @ 50/1 (Coral) ¼ odds 5 places

The big-hitting self-confessed playboy seems to be aiming to get his game back together this year, and he’s certainly got plenty of game having previously made the Ryder Cup Team. In his last 5 events he’s finished 15/3/23/22/3, and he could use his power to great advantage around here.

Kiradech Aphibarnrat 1 point each-way @ 100/1 (Coral) ¼ odds 5 places

The power angle also applies to Aphibarnrat who, whilst blowing extremely hot and cold, can mix it with the best on the European Tour when in the mood. He’s pretty cold at the moment, but did hit form by finishing fourth in the event last year, be it on a different track.

Brandon Stone 1 point each-way @ 80/1 (Various Bookies) ¼ odds 5 places

Another player with fond memories of this event is Brandon Stone, who finished tenth at one of the other venues on an invite a few years ago. It’s took him a while to make good on the promise of that event – but he’s another who hits it miles and could be ready to step-up to win this prestigious event.
