2017 Dubai Desert Classic Golf Preview And Tips

I was kicking myself on Sunday when Jeunghun Wang nailed the Qatar Masters, just a week after I tipped him to win in Abu Dhabi – but that’s golf betting.

However, I’ve got to hand out the plaudits once again to the Golf Betting Expert – as he recommended, to his ever-increasing army of followers, to back John Rahm to win the Farmers Insurance Open at 55/1.

Now onto this week’s action, and the Dubai Desert Classic is the last-leg of the Desert Swing on the European Tour. It’s a tournament that started life back in 1989, and the host venue The Emirates Golf Club, Dubai, UAE is a Par 72 measuring around 7,300 yards, with average-size greens registering around 12 on the Stimpmeter. The front-nine is much the tougher of the two, and the easier back-nine offers plenty of birdie chances to the delight of the big crowds that often gather at the weekend. The course itself is quite exposed and, with wind forecast, it might be worth considering players who are comfortable in those conditions.

Dual winner Rory McIlroy is still absent with an injured rib, but the press will be focusing their attention on another dual winner in Tiger Woods. Woods will have his supporters at 50/1 and, though generous fairways will be much more to his liking that the thick-rough he consistently found himself in at Torrey Pines last week, it’s a price that doesn’t interest me. The 7/1 for Henrik Stenson doesn’t float my boat either as he’s won here just once in 14 attempts.

Three players who do appeal in the Each-Way Market are Rafa Cabrero-Bello, Andy Sullivan and Thorbjorn Olesen. Cabrero-Bello is already a winner here and, after finishing runner-up last year, he looks set to mount another challenge after finishing 2/19/16 on his last 3 outings. Meanwhile, Sullivan has been slowly shaking off the Christmas rust, and he caught the eye last week despite a poor last round. Fourth and second the last two years, he looks to be peaking at just the right time for another bold show. Olesen hasn’t hit the leaderboard yet in the first two-legs of the Desert Swing but, having made both cuts, he may find an extra gear this week for this prestigious trophy, and he has three top-8 finishes here in the last 4 renewals.

The other two recommendations this week are in the top-10 and top-20 markets, with Lee Westwood looking fair-value at 7/2 after posting four top-10 finishes here in the last 6 years. Meanwhile, improving young Italian Renato Paratore looks a speculative top-20 bet after finishing 13/26 the last two years.
