Golf Betting Tips: Zurich Classic Preview

The Zurich Classic is a tournament that has produced 13 first-time PGA Tour winners in its last 17 renewals; suggesting it’s not a week for backing any of the well-known stars in the line-up.

One player I’ll have to have on my side is Morgan Hoffman. This week is likely to be all about birdies, and the 25-year-old has demonstrated on more than one occasion that he can put some seriously low-scoring rounds together. He has twice come close to winning a tournament in the last few months – and has posted 7 top-10s in his last 50 events. He’s finished 21/34 here on the two occasions he’s played the event and, as one of the best maidens in the field, can hopefully build on those performances.

Morgan Hoffman 1 point each-way @ 50/1 (Various) and 2 points top-10 @ 5/1 (Stan James)

The second selection Is Bernd Wiesberger who, whilst we’re more used to seeing him on the European Tour, put in an excellent performance in last year’s US PGA Championship. That was a high-scoring affair on a wet course – and they’re the expected conditions for this tournament.

Bernd Wiesberger ½ point each-way @ 70/1 (Betfred) and 2 points top-10 @ 7/1 (Coral)

Last, but not least, I’m going to take a chance on Tony Finau as he looks a massive price this week in an event that should play to his strengths if he can find a bit of the form that saw him finish in the top 14 in 4 of the season’s first five events (twice 7th). He also shot 3 good rounds at the Shell Houston Open three weeks ago – and will hit top-form again soon.

Tony Finau ½ point each-way @ 200/1 (Skysports) and 2 points top-10 @ 16/1 (Skysports)

Story of last week

Luke Donald and Russell Knox tried valiantly to recover from poor starts – but top-20s where all they could manage.
