Jordan Spieth’s brilliant performance in last week’s Masters just had to be admired – despite having not backed him. However, it was still a good week for the blog with both Poulter and Casey landing our top-10 bets to give us an 11-points profit on the week.
Spieth is as short as 5/1 with some bookmakers this week – but I’ll be happy to salute him again if he pulls off another victory here after last week’s exploits.
Much more interesting are three players who’ve shown some fair amount of promise at the course, and in other events this season – and I’m putting my faith in Luke Donald, Russell Henley and Russell Knox.
Luke Donald has had a relatively poor season despite him and his coach talking as though his all-round game was close to being very good. Despite some poor recent showings – if he’s ever going to spring back to life then it will probably be at a tournament he’s played so well at it in the past. His tournament form figures read 2/3/2/37/3/2 – and he just has to be backed in my opinion. He teed-off at as7/1 favourite a few years ago but he’s now as big as 35/1.
Russell Henley 1 point each-way @ 40/1 and 2 points Top-10 @ 4/1 (Stan James)
Henley finished 9th on his debut here in 2013 and, despite missing the cut here last year, this course looks a good fit for him. Has won the Honda Classic where Donald tends to play well- and that’s probably more than just a coincidence. Also posted three top-5 finishes already this season and had a good Masters tournament last week.
Russell Knox 1 point each-way @ 66/1 and 2 points top-10 @ 6/1 (Boylesports)
The Scotsman has posted some decent finishes in his short time on the PGA Tour, including in 9th here last year and in the last two Honda Classics; which is a form-line I’m banking on this week.
