Golf Betting Tips: Donald Won’t Duck Valspar
The PGA Tour stays in Florida this week as Copperhead stages the Valspar Championship, whilst the European Tour remains in South Africa where Copperleaf hosts the Tshwane Open.
Copperhead is a tricky track that puts a premium on accuracy, whilst Copperleaf offers plenty of birdie chances for those who can hit the ball long and straight.
My three Golf betting fancies this week are Luke Donald, Jim Furyk and Shawn Stefani – and the only question is whether they’re genuine win bets or whether the value lies in the place markets.
Donald often plays well at venues he likes, whilst his form elsewhere is often well below that standard. Copperhead is a typical example of the former and he’s finished 6/1/4/4 on his last four visits. His recent form is nothing to write home about but he typically put in a decent performance in the Honda two weeks ago, when landing our top-10 bet, and he looks ready to strike soon.
Shawn Stefani 0.5 points each-way @ 100/1 (Coral) 1 point top-10 @ 8/1 (various)
Strangely, for a big powerhouse, many of Stefani’s best performances have come on tight tracks – including when 7th here on his debut two years ago, and he’s definitely capable of outplaying his 100/1 odds.
Jim Furyk 2 points Top-5 @ 9/2 (Skybet)
Furyk, who has blown several chances of winning in the last 12 months, has become frustrating. However, there’s no getting away from his excellent current form and course form. His last 5 appearances here have been 1/13/2/7/20, whilst his current form reads 7/14/12. The 22/1 for a win is tempting – but the 9/2 for a top-5 finish looks better value.
Defending a title is never easy but Fisher will probably never have a better chance than this as the course here demands long straight driving; which is certainly his forte. His 23rd placed finish at last week’s WGC Cadillac was also an excellent effort considering he started with a 6-over par 78 before shooting 4-under par for the following three rounds. Won this by 3-shots last year and can hopefully repeat the trick.
A great result last week as Dustin Johnson landed our headline advice and Bubba Watson also getting placed – giving us a fantastic 59 points profit on the week.
