After some excellent international football action last weekend, we return to the Premier League on Saturday.
Manchester City will be looking to return to the top of the table by beating Fulham away from home in the lunchtime kick-off, which will put further pressure on title rivals Liverpool who have a tough match against Tottenham on Sunday. Check out our free tip for Fulham vs Manchester City.
Plenty of teams at the other end of the table will also be desperate for a win and we’ve also got free tips for Brighton vs Southampton and Burnley vs Wolves.
Fulham vs Manchester City (12.30)
Fulham would probably have to win their seven remaining games this season to have any chance of avoiding relegation and it’s simply impossible to see that happening as they’ve lost their last seven. Despite that, they have improved under the guidance of manager Scott Parker, losing just 2-1 at home to both Liverpool and Chelsea.
The big problem for Fulham is that they have to face a Man City side that has won their last 11 games in all competitions. Admittedly, only two of those matches were Premier League away games and it’s interesting that City only won those two games 1-0 and 2-0 against Bournemouth and Everton. It’s also interesting that City have beaten Fulham in the league and in the Carabao Cup to nil this season, with those games ending 2-0 and 3-0.
It’s hard to see anything but a win for Manchester City but, with Pep Guardiola looking sure to give this match his full attention, it could be worth backing City to win to nil at just a shade of odds-on.
Brighton vs Southampton (3.00)
This is a true relegation six-pointer, and a win for Brighton would see them double their current gap above Southampton in the table. However, a win for Southampton would see the see The Saints draw level with the Seagulls.
Both teams come into the match in decent form, with Brighton winning their last two league games against Huddersfield and Crystal Palace and progressing to the FA Cup semi-finals courtesy of a penalty shootout win against Millwall. Despite those results, Brighton’s recent home form has a mixed look to it with wins over Huddersfield and Everton bookending defeats by Burnley and Liverpool and a draw against Watford.
Southampton also come into the match having beaten Tottenham last time and, though they were beaten in their last two away games by Manchester United and Arsenal, they were unbeaten in their previous four away matches.
It’s not an easy match to call, but the bookies have priced this up like it will be a typical low-scoring Brighton home match. But that may not be the case as Southampton need a win and, having watched Burnley get at Brighton, Southampton will surely try and do the same. It’s easy to see them doing so, as they’ve scored in 10 of their last 11 matches, whilst Brighton have also scored in their last seven matches. That’s why odds-against for both teams to score makes plenty of appeal.
Burnley vs Wolves (3.00)
Another team that could desperately do with a win to keep their survival hopes alive is Burnley, and they’re a team in trouble after four straight defeats. They’re also playing a Wolves side that has been playing at a high-level recently and also beat Burnley at home earlier in the season.
However, as Wolves have their FA Cup semi-final next weekend, it will be interesting to see if manager Nuno Santo plays a full-strength team on Saturday. Even if he does, his players surely won’t want to risk injury, and it’s easy to imagine a scenario were the Burnley players want this one a whole lot more than their opponents.
