The Premier League is rarely dull and Liverpool’s ascension to the top of the Premier League table makes this weekend’s games between Liverpool and Manchester United and Manchester City and Everton even more compelling.
Of course, as Manchester United and Everton are in their own battle for sixth spot, they may be unaware they can do their bitter rivals Manchester City and Liverpool favours this weekend. However, it still adds an extra layer of intrigue.
We’ve a free tip for Liverpool and Manchester United as well as a free tip for Manchester City vs Everton. We’ve also got a free tip for Southampton vs Arsenal.
Manchester City vs Everton (Saturday 12.30)
Having fallen behind the best team on Merseyside, Manchester City have the chance to go back to the top of the Premier league table by beating the second-best team on Merseyside in Saturday’s lunchtime match against Everton. They certainly won’t want a repeat of last year’s 1-1 draw, though City did well to come back from a goal down on that occasion having had Kyle Walker sent-off just before half-time. City also put Everton firmly in their place later in the season, with a convincing 3-1 win in which all three of City’s goals were scored in the first-half.
Meanwhile, Everton’s home draws against Watford and Newcastle in their last two matches suggest Everton may be there for the taking. However, at odds of around 2/9 with most bookies, City aren’t a back-able price for most punters. So, the best bet could be Raheem Sterling to score at any time. He’s scored in two of his last three home games and scored in both matches against Everton last season.

Southampton vs Arsenal (Sunday 1.30)
New Southampton manager Ralph Hassenhuttl may yet steady the ship at Southampton but he might need a few weeks to do it as The Saints have recorded just one Premier League this season. Five home draws could allow you to argue a case for backing them at around 11/4 to limit Arsenal to just one point, especially as the last of those draws came against Manchester United.
However, Southampton squandered a two-goal lead there and have since lost their last two games, be those both away games. The only other top-six side to play At Southampton this season was Chelsea and they ran out easy 3-0 winners, whilst Leicester have also left with three-points. Arsenal have also already beaten Fulham, Bournemouth, Newcastle, and Cardiff on their travels this season, so it’s easy to make a case for them beating the team that are second-bottom in the table, and slights odds-on about an Arsenal win look worth taking.

Liverpool vs Manchester United (Sunday 4.30)
Having hit the top of the table last weekend, Liverpool are likely to have to beat Manchester United on Sunday to be looking down on the rest come Sunday evening. But this match poses a real conundrum of present and past form. Unarguably, Liverpool have been a much better team so far this season that Manchester United, earning exactly a point a game more than them.
However, just like in many matches fought out between bitter rivals, form can often go out of the window. United have certainly got the better of Liverpool in the Premier League in recent seasons, with Liverpool failing to win any of their last six Premier League games against United. So, despite Liverpool’s excellent from, it’s hard to make a case for backing them at around 3/5. Liverpool’s defence is excellent, as are their forwards, but they still lack real star-quality in midfield. That’s possibly the reason why Jose Mourinho has managed to limit Liverpool to just two goals in their last four meetings, as he certainly knows how to cut off supply lines and stifle the midfield. So, it’s much easier to argue that the value-bet has to be the draw at odds of 3/1 or better.
