[Free Tips] Tips For Cheltenham Festival Day 1
The 2020 Cheltenham Festival is finally here and the main highlights on day-one are the Champion Hurdle and the Mares’ Hurdle. But our best bets come in three of the top-class supporting races, the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, the Arkle, and the Ultima Handicap Chase.
Supreme Novices’ Hurdle Analysis
13:30 at Cheltenham Racecourse on 10th March
There will be lots of money-back concessions or extra places available for the first race of the festival, so it will be crazy not to have a bet in the 2020 Supreme Novices’ Hurdle. The winning score stands at England 5 Ireland 5 in the last decade, but Ireland have won five of the last seven.
Owner Mrs Donnelly doesn’t seem to mind whether England or Ireland kickstart the festival with a winner as she saddles the joint favourites Shiskin (Nicky Henderson) and Asterion Forlonge Willie Mullins) but I’m hoping that both will be beaten.
Arkle Chase Analysis
14:10 at Cheltenham Racecourse on 10th March
Willie Mullins has won four of the last five editions of the Arkle Chase and it will be interesting to see whether the money comes for his sole representative Cashback. However, he was beaten by Notebook last time, who also beat Ireland’s other main contender Fakir D’Oudairies on his penultimate run.
Ultima Handicap Chase Analysis
14:50 at Cheltenham Racecourse on 10th March
It’s England 10 Ireland 0 in the last 10 editions of the Ultima Handicap Chase and only Elwood and the well-fancied Discorama fly the flag for Ireland this year.
Vinndication has form in the bag over hurdles and fences that entitles him to be ranked higher than his mark of 159, but that’s still 4lb higher than any of the last 10 winners have shouldered. Three other English-trained horses that look potentially well-treated on their best runs at Cheltenham are Mister Malarkey, Mulcahys Hill, and The Conditional.
Mister Malarkey was fourth in a decent edition of the RSA last year, whilst Mulcahys Hill beat Wholestone in a novice chase here earlier in the season, and The Conditional looked good when beating West Approach in a handicap here before running second in the Ladbrokes Trophy.
