Rising Stars Novices Chase 2019 Analysis
14:25 at Wincanton on 9th November
The Rising Stars Novice Chase is run over 2 miles 4 furlongs and 35 yards, and it is a race that local trainer Paul Nicholls targets to great effect with five victories in the last eight years. The last 10 winners have been aged either 4, 5, 6, or 7 and have carried between 10-13 and 11-8. The last 10 winners had also run in the last 36 days, whilst the last seven winners had all won their previous start.
Solomon Grey may struggle to defy his 167-day absence, whilst Commanche Red and Garo Du Juilley have plenty to find on official ratings. Le Musee is rated to be a contender but it was disappointing that he was pulled up last time off his current mark having gone up 8lb for winning his previous race.
The Grade 1 winning hurdler Reserve Tank is harder to dismiss, but he didn’t win on his chasing debut and he needed two runs before hitting peak-form last year.
Elite Hurdle 2019 Analysis
15.00 at Wincanton on 9th November
The Elite Hurdle is run over 1 mile 7 furlongs and 65 yards and is another race that Paul Nicholls does well in having saddled four winners in the last 10 years. Jockey Daryl Jacob also has a good record in the race having ridden three of the last eight winners.
Six runners are set to go to post for the 2019 Elite Hurdle, but Top Peak has nearly 50lb to find on ratings. Beat The Judge, Brandon Castle, and Christopher Wood have 12lb+ to find, but all three are ex-flat horses that might enjoy this speed test.
But it will be a disappointment if either Grandy Sancy and Fusil Raffles don’t prove good enough to take this Grade 2 contest. But, as Grandy Sancy has to concede 3lb to his equally-rated but less experienced rival, preference is for Fusil Raffles.
Badger Beers Silver Trophy Handicap Chase 2019 Analysis
15:35 at Wincanton on 9th November
This class 1 handicap chase is run over 3 miles 1 furlong and 30 yards and the last five winners have been aged either 6, 7, or 8. No winner has defied a rating higher than 144 but last year’s winner defied that rating carrying top-weight of 11-12. Four of the last five winners had also had a recent prep run, but last year’s winner didn’t. Paul Nicholls has trained four of the last eight winners.
There are some grand old servants in this year’s renewal, but this does tend to go to a younger horse. That’s why it could be worth benching Whisper, Rock The Kasbah, Royal Vacation, The Young Master, Give Me A Copper, and Walk In The Mill.
Present Man is harder to bench, as he’s bidding for a hat-trick in the race, but he’s also now on a mark of 148. Cobra De Mai also misses the shortlist as he’s rated 150.
Just A Sting hasn’t had a prep run, whilst the likes of Wicked Willy, Soupy Soups, Sumkindofking, and Beau Du Brizais are up in class.
