Check out our trends, analysis, and free tips for 2020 Betway Chase Day at Kempton.
Pendil Novices’ Chase Analysis
13:15 at Kempton on 22nd February
This Grade 2 Chase over 2 miles 4 furlongs and 110 yards often throws up a high-class winner, with the likes of Cyrname and Frodon winning it in the last few years. Queen’s Magic and Pistol Whipped looks up against it on ratings and both could be simply having their third runs here before going handicapping.
Who Dares wins also can’t be discounted but he’s another whose third run could qualify him for some big handicaps in the spring.
Erik Le Rouge is a fascinating runner having accomplished a 100% record at Kempton with two hurdle wins and a chase win. But those came off marks no higher than 134 in handicaps and he faces much higher-rated rivals off level-weights here. Commanche Red also won a handicap at Kempton last time and only time will tell if that win deserved the 13lb rise in the ratings his other runs did not.
But the most eye-catching statistic in this race is the record of six wins in the last 10 runnings for trainer Paul Nicholls. He saddles two runners this year and Harry Cobden keeps the faith with Master Tommytucker despite two falls in his last three runs.
Dovecote Novices’ Hurdle Analysis
15:02 at Kempton on 22nd February
This Grade 2 Hurdle over 2 miles often goes to an in-form horse, with seven of the last nine winners having won their preceding race. Six of the nine runners fit that statistic this year, though Bathsheba Bay needs to take another step forward after winning off a mark of 114 last time. But that is possible as he was rated 88 on the flat.
West Cork and Gary Clermont have both shown decent form, having formerly run in point to points, but Kempton often favours those that have run on the flat or in bumpers.
Highway One O Two and Kid Commando both ran well in bumpers and are both unbeaten over hurdles after winning at Plumpton. Either could take another step forward, with the latter just preferred after his trainer had two winners on Friday.
Betway Handicap Chase Analysis
15:35 at Kempton on 22nd February
This Grade 3 Handicap Chase is worth £56,950 to the winner and most of the runners will have been plotted towards what is normally a very winnable prize with so many other big meetings in close proximity.
Eight of the last 10 winners have been rated between 134 and 144 so, whilst two winners have won off 154, Black Corton and Talkischeap may struggle off marks of 159 and 157. Crievehill is also 9lb higher than his last winning mark, though Kildisart has possibilities off a mark just 3lb higher than when winning at Aintree last season.
Just a Sting and Highway One O One looks closely matched on their run over course and distance earlier in the season and, though this looks a step up in class, both looked to have been laid out for this race.
However, perhaps last year’s race holds the key piece of form as Double Shuffle, Adrien Du Pont, and Romain De Senam return after finishing second, third, and fourth. Romain De Senam looks up against it off an 11lb higher mark, but Double Shuffle could go close after also finishing second off a 1lb lower mark in 2017.
