Free Tips For Dubai Future Champions Festival [Day 1]

Newmarket’s two-day 2019 Dubai Future Champions Festival takes place on 11-12 October. Day one is called the Dubai Future Champions Festival Featuring Autumn Ladies Day and the main highlight is the Bet365 Fillies Mile. But there is plenty of other excellent horse racing action including the Godolphin Stud & Stable Staff Awards Challenge Stakes. Check out our analysis and free tips for Newmarket.

Godolphin Stud & Stable Staff Awards Challenge Stakes Analysis

Newmarket on 11th October

This Group 2 race takes place over seven furlongs and is open to horses aged three and older. 3-year-olds have won four of the last 10 editions but only one of the last six, whilst three 4-year-olds, two 5-year-olds, and one 6-year-old have also won.

Four winners had won their previous race, with no winner in the last decade having finished worse than sixth on their previous run. But only two of the last 10 winners carried a penalty to victory.

Mustahry is the early market favourite but he could be worth taking on.

He did win a Group 2 on his only previous attempt over 7-furlongs but normally runs over a mile or further. He also only just scrambled home against inferior rivals to the ones he meets here. Connections have tended to avoid soft conditions throughout the latter stages of the 6-year-old’s career after he was well-beaten on his first three attempts on a soft surface.

The 3-year-old Shine So Bright is also penalised for a Group 2 win two starts ago when he beat Laurens at York. That looked excellent form at the time but, as Laurens has since run two stinkers, he may have been flattered. That certainly looked the case next time when he was only fourth at Doncaster in slightly inferior company to what he faces here.

It’s even harder to fancy Solar Gold and Oh This Is Us, as both have plenty to find on ratings with the main contenders, whilst neither have the sort of soft-ground form that suggests they are likely to cause an upset.

Limato is the first of our free tips for the Dubai Future Champions Festival. There is no doubt that connections would have preferred a sounder surface for their 7-year-old, but he has won the race for the last two years and will have had this potential hat-trick as his main target. He’s five from eight over seven furlongs and he also won a July Cup at Newmarket in his prime.

Bet365 Fillies Mile Analysis

15:35 at Newmarket on 11th October

The Bet365 Fillies Mile is a Group 1 race run over a mile that is restricted to 2-year-olds. In the last decade, all 10 winners had run between two and five times, with six winning their previous race. Seven of the last nine had also won at least twice before winning the race.

Irish-trained horses have won four of the last five editions, with Aidan O’Brien responsible for three of those.

Favourites have a mixed record in the race with five of the last 10 winners returned at 5/2 or less, whilst the others were returned at 7/1, 8/1, 10/1, 14/1, and 28/1.

The weather forecast is also worth noting, as there is a fair bit of rain forecast for Newmarket, and the soft ground will make this mile a real test for 2-year-olds.

Six of this year’s field have already won twice and are rated above 100, but Boomer and West End Girl have ground to make up with Powerful Breeze on their latest running. Powerful Breeze is unbeaten after two runs, but her wins have come on good to firm. The ground could also be a worry for Love, as Aidan O’Brien’s top-rated filly put up her worst performance so far when she encountered ground with cut in it.

Quadrilateral won on good to soft ground on her racecourse debut, but she looked more impressive on good ground last time. She also needs to prove she gets a mile.

Cayenne Pepper gets the chance to prove she’s as hot as the spice she’s named after. She’s won all three of her starts so far and was most impressive when stepped up to a mile on ground with some cut last time. She’s also sired by the Derby winner Australia, so could have more stamina than many of her rivals if the race turns into a real slog.
