Bet365 Mares’ Hurdle 2020 Analysis
13:50 at Ascot on 18th January
Just six runners are set to go to post for the 2020 Bet365 Mares’ Hurdle but connections of Coded Message, Culture De Sivola, and Liberty Bella will be happy to pick up some placed prize money. Sensulano has won her last two and the step up to three miles for the first time could bring about further improvement. But it will need to as the two market leaders are two high-class rivals.
Plenty of big hitters may well back both Papagana and Magic of Light at the available prices, and both have a great chance. Papagana is rated 146 after finishing third in the Grade 1 Marsh Hurdle last time and her stamina for this three-mile test in heavy ground is assured. The worry is the poor form of her stable since a lucrative spell over the Christmas period.
Bet365 Handicap Chase 2020 Analysis
15:00 at Ascot on 18th January
A first prize of over £46,000 has attracted an interesting field for this handicap over 2 miles and 5 furlongs.
The early market is headed by Espoir De Guye but he’ll have to defy a 14lb rise for winning his last race over 2 furlongs shorter here at Ascot. The smooth travelling Happy Diva will be hard to keep out of the frame but something will probably outbattle her at the finish on this heavy ground.
Kildisart top the weights but he’s 5lb higher than his last winning mark, whilst Benny’s King is 11lb higher, and Domaine De L’isle is 10lb higher. The latter beat Sam’s Adventure last time quite comfortably, but the booking of Jack Tudor now means Sam’s Adventure has a 15lb pull at the weights.
Aintree My Dream is 5lb lower than his last winning mark but hasn’t troubled the judge for eight starts at a lower level, and it’s a similar story for Kayf Adventure.
Matchbook Clarence House Chase 2020 Analysis
15:35 at Ascot on 18th January
The Grade 1 highlight of the day has attracted just five entries and Marracudja looks completely out of his depth. Capeland is also likely to find this tough after flopping in the Grade 2 Desert Orchid Chase last time. Janika’s rating of 165 gives him the right to get competitive but he has 9-lengths to make up with the favourite on their running at Sandown on identical terms.
That means this should be a straight match between Defi Du Seuil and Un De Sceaux, who were last seen fighting out the finish of the Grade 1 Tingle Creek Chase in December. Defi Du Seuil prevailed by a neck that day on soft ground but he’s not proven around Ascot or guaranteed to run to his best on ground that could be heavier than he normally runs on.
