Free Tips For Ascot And Down Royal

There’s excellent national hunt racing at numerous courses this Saturday though, sadly some of the field for the bigger races have cut-up tremendously at the final entry stage. However, we’ve still got four free tips for you from Ascot and Down Royal.

Ascot 1.50

Wenyerreadyfreddie really impressed with his jumping last time at Uttoxeter and was unlucky to run into the high-class hurdler Lil Rockerfeller who was making his chasing debut. Lil Rockerfeller has since won at Cheltenham, where he won despite being disadvantaged by taking a wider route than he needed to throughout. Wenyerreadyfreddie also had a much higher-rated horse back in third at Uttoxeter and, if repeating the form of that run, he looks too well-handicapped to resist around a course where his bold-jumping should stand him in good stead.

Down Royal (2.30)

The JNwine.com Champion Chase looks like a race that Gigginstown Stud intend to win, as they have five of the seven entries. Balko Des Flos and Road To Respect head the ratings and the betting, though both improved significantly for their seasonal debuts last year. Another Gigginstown representative that will probably need the race in Don Poli, though both Sub Lieutenant and Outlander shouldn’t fail on that score. Sub Lieutenant came out on top when that pair met last time but, as he was significantly better off at the weights there, the value lay with last year’s winner Outlander. He’s getting on now, but it’s unlikely he’ll have a better chance of winning a big race this season.

Horses carrying big-weights have a decent record in this handicap hurdle and, such was the impression that Global Citizen made when winning last season, it could be worth giving him another chance after he flopped at Aintree on his final start. Sadly, like many of his trainer’s horses, he does tend to blow hot and cold, but he looked deadly at Kempton on quickish ground last season and is surely potentially much better than his current mark. He may also be better suited to going right-handed.

Down Royal 3.05

The fact that Henry de Bromhead in the MyCarNeedsA.com Chase suggests that he might have come to the conclusion that last year’s RSA runner-up could be better at trips of around 2½ miles. The evidence of his last two runs at the Cheltenham Festival certainly suggests this bold jumper could be better seen blazing a trail over this trip rather than trying to nurse his stamina over longer trips. However, the form of those two Cheltenham runs still looks top-class, with his Albert Bartlett conqueror Penhill doubling-up in last year’s Stayers’ Hurdle, whilst his RSA conqueror Presenting Percy is favourite for this season’s Cheltenham Gold Cup with some bookies. Therefore, despite conceding weight to all his rivals, it will be disappointing if Monalee isn’t good enough here.
