Unibet Classic Trial Stakes Analysis
14:45 at Kempton Racecourse on 3rd June
Runners for this Group 3 contest have normally had the chance to have a prep run or two, but that hasn’t stopped five of the previous nine winners taking the honours on their seasonal debut.
Some powerful stables are represented in the contest, including Ralph Beckett who saddles two horses. However, he probably wishes he could swap the draw for his runners who are drawn 1 and 10. Last year’s Zetland Stakes winner Max Vega is the one that has got the outside draw, and it may be that Chamade isn’t good enough to win from her inside stall.
Born To Sea for the stable of Wiliam Haggas is another with huge potential, but it’s hard to know how good the form of her win over a mile on heavy ground was, especially as she was allowed to go off at 20/1 that day. A draw in stall 8 also isn’t ideal.
Hypothetical from the John Gosden yard is drawn in stall-7, but this expensive son of Lope De Vega commands plenty of respect after a winning debut. Gosden has also saddled three of the last six winners of this race. The well-bred Bright Light is another winner of his only race, and Godolphin has also targeted this race successfully in the past.
