Manchester City’s Carabao Cup Record
Manchester City first tasted success in the Carabao Cup back in 1970 when it was known as the League Cup. They also won it in 1976 and finished runner-up in 1974. That loss is their only defeat in six finals appearances in this competition, with further wins coming in 2014, 2016, and 2018.
Chelsea’s Carabao Cup Record
Chelsea’s EFL Cup record is nearly as good as Manchester City’s with five wins and two defeats in seven final appearances. The first of those wins came in 1965, with their other wins coming in 1998, 2005, 2007, and 2015. Their defeats came in 1972 and 2008.

Manchester City’s Recent Form
January’s defeat by Newcastle seems to have spurred City into action at just the right time of the season to be collecting silverware. Pep Guardiola will be delighted that his side are coming into this final on the back of a run of five straight wins in all competitions in which they’ve scored 18 goals in and conceded four.
Even conceding two penalties against Schalke couldn’t stop them on Wednesday night, and Pep would have been delighted that City were rewarded for their efforts with two late goals to take a lead into their Champions League second-leg. That means they should be able to concentrate all their efforts here.
Chelsea’s Recent Form
Chelsea have also enjoyed success in Europe recently, with two wins over Malmo but, compared to Manchester City, Chelsea are a difficult side to weigh up at the moment. They’ve either dominated teams like Huddersfield or been dominated by Manchester City, Manchester United, and even Bournemouth.
One noticeable statistic in that run is that only one team has scored in each of Chelsea’s last seven matches.
Manchester City vs Chelsea Head To Heads
Chelsea have already faced Manchester City three times this season. The first of those was in the Community Shield, which was Maurizio Sarri’s first competitive game in charge of Chelsea, so it was no surprise that City won 2-0 after leading 1-0 at half-time.
Sarri certainly seemed to have learned his lesson when Chelsea entertained Manchester City at Stamford Bridge in December when, after fending off some early City attacks, they ran our 2-0 winners after taking a 1-0 lead before the break and doubling it afterwards.
This season’s match at the Etihad was a completely different story, with Pep Guardiola’s team taking no prisoners as they romped to a 4-0 lead within 25 minutes and netted two more after half-time to make it 6-0.

Carabao Cup Final Best Bets
Manchester City come into this final in by far the best form of the two sides and the big-hitters may decide to lump on City at around 4/7 after City destroyed Chelsea 6-0 at the Etihad just two weeks ago.
If you don’t fancy betting at odds-on, it’s easy to make a case for backing no in the both teams to score market. Only one team has scored in all three meetings between the two sides this season, whilst it’s also interesting that only one team has scored in three of the last four EFL Cup Finals between top-six sides.
At an even bigger price, if you fancy Manchester City to win, you may want to consider backing Man City to win to nil, which they did in both of their wins this season – and that looks the best value Carabao Cup Final bet.
