Free NBA Picks For Tuesday 16th April

The Magic made noise in Game 1 and there’s a stack of pressure now placed on the Raptors to hold home court.

Orlando Magic vs. Toronto Raptors @ Scotiabank Arena

Past Meetings And Form

Orlando scored an upset three-point win (104-101) in Game 1 and it only confirmed what many had believed to be true – the Raptors will never be a playoff team.

Despite adding Kawhi Leonard to their roster, the Raptors simply haven’t been able to get it done when it counts. Following on from a dismal performance in 2018, the Raptors now trail by one game and have essentially lost home court advantage.

Most bettors aren’t expecting the Raptors to lose on Tuesday and neither are we, but bookmakers have the line set at 10 and that’s high.

Kyle Lowry is going to need to show he’s a big-time player, because at the moment he’s nothing better than a regular season talent. Lowry will need to drop at least 20 points if the Raptors are to avoid going 0-2 in the best of seven series.

We’re not surprised to see bookmakers have the Raptors as overwhelming –500 favorites but it’s often an overestimation of what’s to come. Most are expecting the real Raptors to come out in Game 2 but that’s not always the case.

Momentum is huge in the NBA and the Magic have all the momentum heading into this game.

They aren’t the more talented team but they are good enough to keep this close and give the Toronto Raptors something to think about as the series heads to Florida.

San Antonio Spurs vs. Denver Nuggets @ Pepsi Center

Spurs created an upset in Game 1 and that could continue this Tuesday as the Nuggets look to rebound on their home court.

Past Meetings And Form

The Nuggets dropped only seven games at Pepsi Center during the regular season but they lost when it counted last week.

Losing at home to the Spurs is not a good sign for the #2 seed – arguably one of the worst #2 seeds in recent history. The Nuggets, in our opinion, doesn’t have the talent to progress to the Western Conference finals and we got a taste of that in Game 1.

Giving the Spurs home court advantage isn’t ideal for the Nuggets, which were relying on holding home court. Their record on the road isn’t stellar so winning Game 2 is a must-win situation for the Nuggets.

How will that play on their mindset? They’ll either come out firing or they will come out flat. Although we’re expecting a better performance, we can’t erase that 101-96 Game 1 loss from our minds.

We’re not sure which team wins this game but we’re confident the San Antonio Spurs are good enough to cover the spread.

They were impressive in Game 1 and some unlikely heroes stood up. With the likes of Aldridge and DeRozan in the team, the Spurs have every chance to make a deep playoff run, despite a relatively poor regular season.

The Nuggets might have peaked.

OKC Thunder vs. Portland Trail Blazers @ Moda Center

Portland called upon Damian Lillard in Game 1 and he came up trumps. This looms as a big game for the Thunder, which won’t want to slip to 0-2.

Past Meetings And Form

Lillard was a man possessed last week when dropping three pointers from Steph Curry land. Now known as “Logo Lillard”, the Trail Blazers’ star player was hitting threes from the logo.

It was impressive shooting from the man who averaged 25.8 points per game during the regular season and he single-handedly put Portland 1-0 up in the playoffs.

For the Thunder, Paul George was good and Russell Westbrook was decent, but they shot terribly as a team from the three-point line.

If the Thunder are going to compete during the playoffs, they either need to shoot much better from deep or start driving more to the rim. Westbrook’s attacking mindset is what’s needed here and settling for the three is a negative for the Thunder.

Thunder have the more balanced team but also a knack of disappointing in the playoffs.

This is one of the hardest games to predict this week, simply due to both teams being enigmatic at the best of times.

We’re leaning towards the Thunder on the basis that if they lose this game, we’re unsure they will progress to the next round. We believe they’re the better team and that could be shown on Tuesday.

A team as talented as they are on paper simply can’t be losing two consecutive games to the Trail Blazers and they can get it done.

Bookmakers have a close line at 2.
