Our analysis and best picks for Friday’s NBA action are:

Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Indiana Pacers @ Bankers Field Lifehouse

The momentum of the Pacers took a hit with a recent loss but the Eastern Conference contenders could get back on track as they face the Timberwolves, who have found form of late.

Past Meetings and Stats

This is only the second meeting this season between the Timberwolves and Pacers, with the Timberwolves scoring a 101-91 win last year.

The form of both teams coming into this game is quite interesting with Minnesota winning four of their last five but they’re only 5-5 overall. The Pacers, on the other hand, have lost two of their past four games but are a rock-solid 8-2 from their last 10.

Pacers lost to the Pistons and the Bucks, which is no real blight on their record and they have scored some quality wins of late, especially at home where they boast a 23-8 record.

Timberwolves will be pleased with their recent success after a poor season to date and they’re a team which could make a late playoff run.

Verdict

We respect the talents of the Timberwolves and they have stepped up their play in February, but the Pacers are a genuine playoff contender and they play as a unit.

They might not possess the star players that the Timberwolves have, but they deserve to be respected as a team and the bookmakers are offering up a good line.

Golden State Warriors vs. Orlando Magic @ Amway Center

We have been waiting for the Warriors to hit top gear this season and although it hasn’t quite happened yet, this could be one of those games where the likes of Curry, Durant and Thompson all get hot from the outside.

Past Meetings and Stats

Golden State have dominated the Magic in recent years. They have won the last 11 games against the Magic and although the Magic are improved this season, they will need to overtime that overwhelming statistic to cause an upset.

Warriors have traded wins back and forth over their last five games. Beating the Hornets, Kings and Jazz but losing to the Trail Blazers and Rockets. It has been an inconsistent year for the defending champions but we’re expecting a turnaround in form pretty soon.

Magic looked good prior to losing two of their last three games, with one of those coming at home to the Bulls.

They are 16-16 at home and that record should be respected but with DeMarcus Cousins sitting out for the Warriors, that could open up the floor for their deadly shooters to knock down a stack of three pointers.

Verdict

Bookmakers have the current line at 6 and that’s going to play in favor of Warriors’ backers. Golden State can quickly turn a 10-point deficit into a 10-point win and that’s why they’re so dangerous to back against.

We thought the line would be around 10 for the quality outfit and when you have a team with so many scoring threats across the court, we can’t turn down the line on offer.

Philadelphia 76ers vs. Oklahoma City Thunder @ Chesapeake Energy Arena

West meets the East in this highly-anticipated clash between the 76ers and Thunder in Oklahoma.
With almost identical records, two quality teams meet in what could be a preview of the playoffs.

Past Meetings and Stats

These two teams don’t meet often but they did play each other in January. That result went in favor of the Thunder in a thrilling 117-115 contest in Philadelphia.

Eager to avenge that result will be the 76ers, which have won seven of their past 10 on the road, so travelling isn’t a problem for the talent team.

What will be a problem is the fact that the last 76ers road win in OKC was before the Thunder even existed. Another factor going against them is their increasing injury toll, which sits at five players.

The biggest name on that list is starting center Joel Embiid. The other four players are mostly bench warmers but missing Embiid is a big factor and it should allow Steven Adams to have his way in the paint.

Verdict

This wasn’t an easy game to predict and making it harder is the bookmakers’ line of 8. That’s a fairly high number that the Thunder has to overcome for its backers, but we think they can go close.

76ers will be forced to use Ben Simmons in more of a shooting role and that’s something he’s not good at doing. He’s an inside scorer and without Embiid there to draw in the defence, Simmons could struggle to get his team going.

Confidence is with the Thunder, especially against a team they haven’t lost to at home in many years.
