Free Horse Racing Tips For New Year’s Day
It’s a Happy New Year from the Betting Gods blog and, hopefully, we can follow up Saturday’s three winners with a few more winning free tips for you at Cheltenham. We’ve a free tip for the Relkeel Hurdle as well as the Dipper Novices’ Chase, the Download The BetBright App Handicap Chase, and the Simplify Horse Racing Selections With Betfinder At Betbright Handicap Hurdle.
Nicky Henderson has only run three horses in the Dipper Novices’ Chase in the last five years and two of them have won. Those two horses where Whisper and Oscar Whiskey, which suggests On The Blind Side is held in high-regard at Henderson’s Seven Barrows Stables. Indeed, having watched his price get smashed in from an opening 9/1 to around 3/1 in the ante-post market for this race, there’s probably a few of the staff at Seven Barrows hoping he’s going to pay for Christmas. The best of his hurdling form certainly suggests he’s got a great chance and, though he finished behind both Black Op and Lostintranslation when last seen at Aintree in April, it’s worth remembering he was a heavily-backed favourite for that race. He’s also had wing surgery since and, like on several occasions last season, hopefully he can win when the money is down.

There’s no doubt Dustin Des Mottes is taking a step-up in class here, but he could find further improvement for a step-up in trip, whilst he also looked like he’d be better going left-handed when hanging left in the closing stages at Ascot last time. The handicapper also raised him just a 1lb for that run and he now has the useful Charlie Hammond taking 5lbs off his back. That leaves him with just 9-10 to carry and he could relish getting weight from all his rivals.

Aux Ptits Soin has been lightly-raced ever-since arriving from France but, after moving from Paul Nicholls to Dan Skelton, he looks like this could be the day he gets back in the winner’s enclosure now he returns to Cheltenham. Fifth on his stable debut after 601 days off the track, he looks sure to take a step forward here, and is handicapped to win as he’s just 2lbs higher than when winning the 2016 Coral Cup at the Cheltenham Festival, whilst he was fifth on his only other run at Cheltenham in the following year’s Stayers’ Hurdle. That was his first run of that season, off a mark 11lb higher than today’s, and a repeat of the form of either of those two previous Cheltenham runs would give him an outstanding chance here.

Wholestone sets a decent standard for his opponents to aim at now he’s back to his beloved Cheltenham, where he’s won four times and been placed four times in eight visits. Even better, he’s two from two over course and distance. However, the form of the Twiston-Davies stable is worrying and he could be vulnerable to something with a bit of toe on decent ground at this trip. The one to take him on with could be Old Guard who, though he’s yet to prove he relishes this far, has often faced tough tasks or unsuitably soft ground on previous attempts at it. He has a useful turn of foot when on song and his stable has enjoyed an excellent Christmas.
