What a weekend of action we have to look forward to with the 2015 William Hill Greyhound Derby taking centre stage with heats live on RPGTV on Friday and Saturday evening. The competition is starting to take shape nicely now after the qualifying heats on Wednesday and Thursday and if the leading lights manage to qualify from these heats we are in for a cracking round number two next week – also live on RPGTV.
Fridays action gets underway at 7.25 from Wimbledon and 7.31 over at the Coral owned London Road stadium at Romford.
Race of the night?, its hard to choose one with some many class greyhounds on show but if forced to choose a race the 9.15 from Wimbledon looks a tasty heat and with many of the leading outright fancies lining up there is bound to be some disapointed and frustrated connections after the race. Sidarian Blaze (T1) has his draw on the rails and if the Irish raider manages to ping and hold that pitch into the first corner he will take all the beating, but will he break in best fashion?, at around 4/7 with Skybet he’s a little too short in my opinion and could be worth taking on. Kippers Usian (T3) from the Chris Allsopp kennel recently won the Arc at Swindon and then went on to take a trial stakes race over course and distance in impressive fashion and recorded 28.55 in the process – the 11/2 with Bet365 will look huge with a ping break. Another that is sure to attract support is Mash Mad Blackie from the Matt Dartnell kennel, the lightly raced son of Droopys Scolari has recently been put up as a leading light for the competition from the trainer himself and with a plot draw out wide the 9/2 with Skybet is sure to prove popular. Based on the plot draw out wide Mash Mad Blackie looks a decent each way bet.
PGT GREYHOUND TIPS FOR TODAY – MASH MAD BLACKIE @ 9/2 WITH SKYBET
Over at Romford look out for Flagfield Band from T2 in the 8.34 maiden stayers race over the six bend 575 meter trip. The Sittingbourne raider caught the eye last time out over course and distance and with anything like a clear run around the first couple of bends he will be hard to beat. Ballymac Rosalie from the Hove based Jason Heath kennel is an interesting runner in the 8.50 open race again over the 575 meter trip. The lightly raced daughter of Ballymac Vic has gone well over the four bend trip recently and is likely to go well tonight is allowed an uncontested lead on the rails.
Saturday – Day four of the 2015 William Hill Greyhound Derby Heats
All eyes once again will be on Wimbledon as the track stages the fourth and final night of the 2015 Derby heats with thirteen heats in total its going to be a busy show and there is sure to be plenty of shocks with only two qualifying from each race. One to look out for on Saturday is the clash between Millwards Whitey and Viking Jack in the 7.39, Whitey from the Dean Childs kennel is likely to put the pace into the race and attempt to make all but if Viking Jack turns within striking distance look out for his finishing kick. Bubbly Zeus has top class Irish form and is one to watch in the market on competitive English debut. Other notable runners on Saturday evening include Droopys Ward, Droopys Nidge and Save The Don.
Sunday – Henlow live on Racing Post Greyhound TV
Moving onto Sunday and it’s Henlow live on RPGTV, the show gets underway at 6.15pm with the first race at 6.30pm. One to watch in the market will be Bocko in the 8.00 from T6, the solo wide seed is a class sort who is very lightly raced and if he manages to ping and lead round on Sunday he will be a huge runner. As ever the price offered by the bookmakers will make or break whether Bocko is worth a bet on the day.
