We’re focusing on College Basketball for our free picks on Friday. Our top three games, each with our best prediction are:

Cincinnati vs. UCF @ CFE Arena

Plenty on the line in this NCAAB matchup between the 25-4 Cincinnati Bearcats and UCF, which is currently 22-6 on the season and heading for March Madness.

It’s always an exciting game between two ranked sides and this should be no different.

Past Meetings and Stats

The Bearcats hold the 4-1 advantage over the last five games between the Knights, including a 60-55 win earlier this season at home.

They travel to Knights territory this time, however, and it’s a venue which saw the Knights score an emphatic 95-48 over SMU last time on court.

That was backed up with a win over USF and an incredible upset win over Houston on their home court. The 69-64 result earned UCF a ranking inside the top 25 in the country and they could take that all the way to the tournament.

Cincinnati is no pushover, however, after winning their last five and nine out of 10. That’s some record and despite being on the road here, they loom as a winning threat.

Verdict

UCF is a tough team to stop when they’re on a roll and they could avenge their recent loss to the Bearcats.

Bookmakers have the Knights as slight favorites in what should be a close contest.

Iowa vs. Wisconsin @ Kohl Center

Iowa will be looking to get back into contention for a tournament spot when facing Wisconsin on Friday. The Badgers are playing their final home game of the season and that’s not going to make it easy for any team coming into Kohl Center.

Past Meetings and Stats

These two teams have met once this season with Wisconsin winning 72-66 in Iowa. Since that game, the season has gone in different directions for both teams.

Iowa has lost three of their last four games and they haven’t been good losses. Defeat at the hands of Rutgers, Ohio State and Maryland have put Iowa into a poor position and it doesn’t get any easier this time around.

Wisconsin rebounded from a loss to Indiana in double overtime with a solid 61-57 win over Penn State. That win was good enough but it was hardly what they would have wanted heading into the playoffs. That being said, Wisconsin are clearly the better team here and their recent form suggest as much.

Verdict

Iowa was a team to follow earlier on this season but they have been ordinary since the New Year. That doesn’t bode well for them in this matchup and bookmakers have set the line at 7.5.

That’s fair given the form of both teams and this could be a statement win for the home side.

SMU vs. Houston @ Fertitta Center

#12 ranked Houston comes into this game needing to rebound after a shock loss and they clearly have more to play for against SMU, which has a dismal record of 13-15.

Past Meetings and Stats

Houston were winners on the road when they faced SMU in January. The 69-58 win was one of 27 wins this season (two losses), but one of those losses came just days ago when they were shocked by the UCF Knights at home.

The 64-69 loss wasn’t expected by many bettors but they have a good chance of getting back on track against an SMU team which is looking to avoid their fourth consecutive defeat.

SMU have looked half decent at times this season and there’s not much between the statistics for both sides, but they lack that winning instinct. It’s one that Houston has and with a 19-9-1 against the spread record, Houston should be tough to not only beat, but tough to cover the spread against in this situation.

Verdict

A strong home win will be needed for Houston, which is looking to make amends for losing to UCF. That loss would have stung the proud team, which rarely loses at home.

SMU doesn’t pose much of a threat in this game but predicting which team will cover the 13.5 spread is another matter. That’s a high line for a college basketball game and it doesn’t matter how good Houston is compared to SMU, they would need to beat them at all aspects to cover the line.

In Houston’s favor are numerous big wins recently. They scored an 85-50 win over Tulane and a 71-59 win over UCF last month. Those wins bode well for this game and although it could be close with the line, we think Houston has enough firepower to overcome the start.

Houston –13.5 @ 1.92 Pinnacle, Asianodds, 18Bet
