Free College Basketball Picks For 19th Feb

Posted February 18, 2019 | By Daryl @ Betting Gods

There’s some great College Basketball on Tuesday, including a game in which everyone in Virginia will be watching as the fourth-ranked Virginia takes on their cross-city rivals Virginia Tech (22).

Virginia vs. Virginia Tech @ Cassell Coliseum

Both teams are flying this season with a combined record of 42 wins and seven losses. This game will decide who has bragging rights as March Madness approaches.

Past Meetings and Stats

These two teams have played each other only five times in the last three years and it’s Virginia with a slim 3-2 advantage. Two of their losses came in overtime when losing 80-78 in 2017 and 61-60 last season.
There’s little between both teams according to past results and although Virginia were runaway winners when they met earlier this season (81-59), Tech has a good chance to exact their revenge.

Virginia Tech are 9-1 at home over their last 10 games, with their only loss coming to Louisville by eight points. Virginia has the same record away from home, scoring nine wins and one loss away from their home court.

Virginia have been good against the spread this season with a 17-7 record and they give up only 54.4 points per game, which is 7 points less than their opponents.

Verdict

This should be a close game for most of the 40 minutes but the class of Virginia should enable them to pull away late. They are looking to remain as one of the best teams in the NCAA competition and winning against Tech takes them a long way to solidifying that position.

Illinois vs. Wisconsin @ Kohl Center

Illinois and Wisconsin don’t face each other very often but when they do, it’s Wisconsin which comes out on top.

Looking to stop that trend is Illinois, which isn’t currently ranked inside the top 25 but they’re making a strong case to be included in March Madness with four consecutive wins.

Wisconsin are sliding with back-to-back losses so this game is an important result for both sides.

Past Meetings and Stats

Wisconsin has dominated Illinois and for many years. The last time Illinois defeated Wisconsin was in 2011 – since then Wisconsin has won 14 consecutive games.

That’s something the Illinois team will have to overcome but there’s always more emphasis to beat a team that history suggests you won’t. This Illinois team will be confident after posting four straight wins over Ohio State, Rutgers, Michigan State and Nebraska.

Those are quality wins and they’re travelling a touch better than Wisconsin at the moment, which has dropped recent games to Michigan State and Michigan.

Illinois might have the poor record of 10-15 but they are the form side and Wisconsin (17-8) will have a fight on their hands.

Verdict

The bookmakers will likely favor Wisconsin by around 7-8 points but we will happily take Illinois with the points.

Look past their overall record as this is an improving team and Wisconsin is having confidence issues after dropping two games of late, including one at home.

There could also be value in betting Illinois in the money line market as Wisconsin will be far too short.

Kansas State vs. West Virginia @ WVU Coliseum

Much was expected of this West Virginia team this season but they have failed to deliver in a big way. The 10-15 team faces the 18th-ranked Kansas State, which needs to rebound after dropping a game to Iowa State on their home court last Sunday.

The season is all but finished for West Virginia but they could be giant killers against Kansas State and we wouldn’t be surprised to see a close contest.

Past Meetings

West Virginia holds a 4-1 record over their last five games, but as we’ve stated, the team this year has underperformed in a big way.

Kansas State scored the most recent win in January when scoring narrowly 71-69 in a tight tussle. Kansas State has won five of their last six away from home and West Virginia hasn’t used their home court to their advantage.

Two home wins from their last six games has stumped any momentum WV was trying to gain and Kansas State could pounce on that lack of confidence.

Kansas State has lost only two of their last 10 games, which has included wins over Texas, Baylor and Kansas. All quality wins from the quality side.

Verdict

Kansas State should be heavy favorites for this contest and we’re expecting them to cover the spread with ease.

Bookmakers will likely have the line at double digits, perhaps in the 10-11 region and we’re confident that Kansas State has enough fire power with the likes of Barry Brown Jr, but missing Dean Wade could cause some concern.

That might tighten up the line which favors KS backers.

Kansas State Point Spread -7.5 @ 1.91 Betfair SB, Ladbrokes, Coral, WilliamHill, Sportingbet, 10Bet
