Football Tips: Speedy Sterling To Score First
International week started pretty much as England expected with a 5-0 victory over San Marino, and they’ll be looking for a similar performance against Estonia on Sunday as they look to cement their positions as group favourites to qualify for Euro 2016.
Meanwhile, Wales host Bosnia tonight, whilst Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and Scotland all look to make the most of home advantage on Saturday.
Let’s delve deeper and explore this week’s top football tips.
Estonia vs England
The two teams have clashed twice before, both in 2007, with England emerging victorious on both occasions. The score was also 3-0 on both occasions, whilst both first goalscorers, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Joe Cole, were both renowned speedy dribblers. It’s fair to say that neither team has exactly set the world alight in the interim, and a similar result is expected again. The 2/7 England to win makes little appeal, apart from putting it in your Acca, but the 20/21 England to win to nil looks a fair price. Meanwhile, a third 3-0 victory looks well within England’s capabilities, with the speedy and skilful Raheem Sterling appealing as the likely first goalscorer.
England to win to nil @ 20/21
England to win 3-0 @ 15/2
Raheem Sterling to score first 5/1
Wales vs Bosnia
Two years ago Wales failed to capitalise on home advantage as they lost 2-0 to Bosnia in a friendly and, without Aaron Ramsay and Joe Allen, they may suffer a similar fate. The 13/5 for Bosnia to win to nil is tempting, but Gareth Bale is sure to be trying his heart out and may get a consolation goal.
Bosnia @ 5/4
Bosnia 2-1 @ 19/2
Republic of Ireland vs Gibraltar
Gibraltar may have beaten fellow minnows Malta this year, and bagged a draw away at England’s opponents Estonia, but a true reflection of their ability is best highlighted by their 7-0 defeat at home to Poland. ROI are a best-priced 1/50, which is why 3-0, 4-0, and 5-0 are vying for correct score favouritism, however I’ll take a chance on 6-0 at 10/1.
ROI 6-0 @ 10/1
Nothern Ireland vs Faroe Islands
2-7 for a Northern Ireland victory looks a little stingy considering that they’ve failed to score in 4 of their last 5 games, whilst the Faroe Islands have scored 8 goals in their last 5 games which include a win over Gibraltar and a draw against Kazakhstan. It’s not an easy game to call, but I’ll chance a draw and a 1-1 scoreline.
Draw @ 19/4
Scotland vs Georgia
The two previous matches between the teams have resulted in one win each with both teams making the most of home advantage. 8/11 for a Scotland looks a little short, so try correct scores of 2-0 and 2-1
Scotland 2-0 @ 7/1
Scotland 2-1 @ 9/1
