Football Tips For Boxing Day
Published on 23/12/18
There’s probably been a few festive mood swings amongst football fans in Manchester this week as Manchester City dropped clanger against Crystal Palace, whilst the Manchester United players seemed to revel in being able to attack more under new interim manager Ole Gunner Solskjaer’s guidance.
What significance those two matches have on the rest of the season remains to be seen, but it does mean Liverpool have reached Christmas with a four-point lead, and they’re just 1/6 to at least maintain that lead when they take on Newcastle at Anfield on Boxing Day.
We’ve got a free tip for Liverpool vs Newcastle, as well as free football tips for Leicester vs Manchester City, and Watford vs Chelsea.
Leicester vs Manchester City (3.00)
Pep Guardiola doesn’t strike me as a manager that will be panicking after Manchester City’s defeat at Crystal Palace and, after a spell of self-reflection, I imagine he’s told his players to spend a few days with their families enjoying Christmas, though not too much. After a few matches of not playing his best team, it’s hard to believe Guardiola isn’t going to play his strongest available starting eleven against a Leicester side that took City to penalties in the League Cup last week.
However, Leicester will be full of confidence too after their weekend 1-0 win at Chelsea, which was also the eleventh straight game that has produced less than 2.5 goals that Leicester have been involved in. Despite that run, the bookies are still betting odds against there is less than 2.5 goals and that could be the bet with the last two matches between the two teams at Leicester both ending 1-1.

Liverpool vs Newcastle (3.00)
Liverpool could have been forgiven if they’d been nervous against Wolves on Saturday after hitting the top of the table, but a professional performance resulting in a 2-0 win against an in-form Wolves side, that had already taken a point off several big teams this season, was a big feather in Jurgen Klopp’s metaphorical cap.
But that’s been the case throughout the season so far for Liverpool, with Klopp finding a much better balance between defence and attack this season. Liverpool may be averaging less goals a game than last season but their defence is rock-solid and six clean-sheets at home this season makes even odds-on prices about Liverpool beating Newcastle to nil look worth playing. Liverpool also beat The Magpies 2-0 in the corresponding fixture last season.

Watford vs Chelsea (7.30)
Watford and Chelsea haven’t been the two easiest teams to predict recently, with both teams winning matches they weren’t fancied to, whilst they’ve also lost easier opportunities. However, as the last three matches between the two sides have been goal-fests, it could be worth betting on a similar scenario now that Watford are back amongst the goals. The last three matches between Watford and Chelsea have ended up 4-1, 4-2, and 4-3, and 4-1 or better about there being more than 3.5 goals looks a safe but fun bet.
