World Cup Qualifying Predictions For 31st August
World Cup Qualifying for Russia 2018 is getting to the serious stages, and Thursday night sees France looking to put a likely end to the Dutch Challenge. In the same group, Sweden will also be fancying their chances of extending their lead over the Dutch as they travel to Bulgaria, whilst Portugal vs Faroe Islands could provide plenty of goals for the home team.
France vs Netherlands (7.45)
This is a must win game for The Netherlands, who dominated big games between the two countries until recently, beating France in both the 2000 and 2008 European Championships. However, the current Dutch side is a shadow of some of its predecessors, and they face a French side that has won the last 3 games between the two teams, including a 1-0 win in Holland already in this World Cup Qualifying campaign. This is also a French Team that is growing in confidence all the time as the likes of Paul Pogba mature and, in Antoine Griezmann they have a striker that finds the net with regular authority. The Netherlands don’t have a bad record on their travels with 8 wins in 12 games but, as many of those wins were against very beatable teams, closer inspection suggests they may fold tamely against such a powerful opponent. However, as they need to attack to have any chance of making it to Russia for the finals, they are likely to leave plenty of gaps for France to exploit, and the suggestion is backing France to win 2-0 or 3-0.

Bulgaria vs Sweden (7.45)
Sweden must be relishing the chance to take another step towards realising their dreams of making it to the 2018 World Cup Finals, especially against a Bulgarian side they hold an outstanding record against. Between 1994 and 2005, the two teams played each other in a variety of tournaments and friendlies, but Sweden emerged triumphant in all of them, and without conceding a single goal. Old form can often be discounted but, as Sweden also beat Bulgaria 3-0 at home earlier in qualifying last year, Sweden to win to nil looks a solid value-bet.

Portugal vs Faroe Islands (7.45)
This should be a one-sided affair with Portugal expected to be in complete control from start to finish. They should win to nil but, as even that will only reward you with odds of 1/4, there must be some value in trying to pick how many Portugal will score. Portugal have averaged just over 4 goals a game in their last 8 home matches, whilst the Faroe Islands have conceded a shade under four goals in their last 6 matches against similarly ranked sides. 4-0 it is then.
