World Cup Qualifier Predictions Saturday 2 September
Saturday is another night of matches in a busy period of World Cup Qualifiers, and we’ve predictions for Finland vs Iceland, and Spain vs Italy.
Finland vs Iceland (5.00)
The Finnish Football Team’s world cup aspirations are already over after securing just one point from their first 6 qualifying matches, and it remains to be seen if they can muster enough motivation to stop an Iceland side who will be hoping to qualify for their second major tournament in a row after qualifying for Euro 2016. Let’s not forget that Iceland also inflicted defeat on England there and, whilst they were firmly put in their place by France afterwards, they still look head and shoulders above Finland. The Icelanders also beat Finland on both occasions they met last year, with the first being a 1-0 win in Finland, before they fought back to win 3-2 at home after surprisingly been 2-1 down at half-time. This is a big match for Iceland, with the winner of the Ukraine vs Turkey match waiting to leapfrog them into second if they lose – and Iceland are fancied to enhance their World Cup aspirations.

Spain vs Italy (7.45)
Spain top Group G on goal difference from Italy, with both teams taking 16-points from their opening 6 games; the two points each have dropped being courtesy of a 1-1 draw in Italy earlier in the campaign. Spain started the better of the two with easy wins over Liechenstein, Albania and Macedonia, but have conceded goals against Israel and Macedonia in their last two qualifiers. Meanwhile, Italy leaked goals early in their campaign against Israel and Macedonia, whilst they have since kept clean sheets against Liechenstein (twice) and Albania – all suggesting there is little between Spain and Italy on paper. In fact, there is rarely much between these two giants of International Football, with Spain 12 Wins, Italy 11 Wins and 13 draws from their 36 head-to-heads. Spain have held sway in their home matches though, with 4 wins and 4 draws in their last 8 home matches, though it was Italy who won the most important recent match with victory in at Euros 2016. Therefore, with Spain priced-up at 11/13, and the draw at 5/2 – the value must be in backing the draw. Meanwhile, the other bet that could be worth having is less than 2.5 goals – as you would have collected off that bet in 14 of the last 16 head-to-heads.
