It’s The Europa League Final [2 Free Tips Inside]
The 2019 Europa League Final between Arsenal and Chelsea kicks-off at 8 p.m. on Wednesday 29 May at the Olympic Stadium in Baku, Azerbaijan. The host venue seats up to 70,000 spectators, but not many English football fans will be there with neither Chelsea or Arsenal reportedly selling the small amount of tickets they were allocated, with fans worried about the cost and the political unrest in the area.
The bookies have made Chelsea slight favourites, but it’s Arsenal that have more to gain by winning the trophy as victory will earn them a place in next year’s Champions League draw along with Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool, and Manchester City.

After seemingly giving up on a top-four Premier League finish and automatic qualifying for the Champions League with a few games to go, Arsenal did manage to round off the domestic season with a 3-1 win at Burnley. Pierre Aubameyang’s two goals on Town Moor also earned him a share of the 2019 Premier League Golden Boot award.
However, despite Arsenal’s failings in the Premier League, it’s hard to knock their Europa League campaign in which they overcame Rennes 3-1, Napoli 3-0, and Valencia 7-3 over two-legs in the latter stages. There were especially impressive in beating Serie A runners up Napoli both home and away before repeating that feat against Valencia who finished fourth in La Liga.

Chelsea finished their Premier League season with a 0-0 draw at Leicester, which was their third draw in their last four domestic games. They too didn’t finish the season on a high note and owed their third-place finish in the Premier League more to the terrible efforts of Manchester United, Arsenal, and Tottenham, rather than their own good play.
On paper, they also had an easier run of fixtures than Arsenal on route to the Europa League Final. They avoided most of the big teams, whilst they only overcame Eintracht Frankfurt on penalties after two 1-1 draws, a team that finished seventh in the German Bundesliga this season.
Arsenal vs Chelsea Head To Heads
Arsenal and Chelsea have played each other three times already this season, with the first of those meetings coming in the International Champions Cup in August at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. Chelsea took the lead in the fifth minute that day before Lacazette equalized for Arsenal in the 93rd minute, with Arsenal then going on to win 6-5 on penalties.
Chelsea took their revenge at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League less than three weeks later, winning 3-2. Chelsea again took the lead early with a ninth minute goal from Pedro but it was 2-2 at half-time. Alonso then scored Chelsea’s winner in the 81st minute.
Arsenal made it two out of three wins at The Emirates in January with a 2-0 win, with Lacazette giving them a 14th minute lead before Koscielny doubled it.
Arsenal vs Chelsea Team News
Both teams will be without key players for the Europa League Final, with Armenian international Mkhitaryan not making the journey to Baku for political reasons. Meanwhile, Chelsea will reportedly be without N’Golo Kante after he hurt a knee in training after coming back from a hamstring injury.
Chelsea are also without defender Antonio Rudiger, as well as England starlets Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Callum Hudson-Odoi. Arsenal will also be without Aaron Ramsay.
Europa League Final Verdict 2019
Chelsea may have finished the Premier League season stronger than Arsenal, but there’s a case to be made that Arsenal’s form in beating Napoli and Valencia in the quarter-finals and semi-finals is stronger form than anything Chelsea produced on route to the Europa League Final. Arsenal also beat Chelsea at the Emirates last time they met.
That’s why Arsenal look the value bet to win in 90-minutes, with the bookmakers making Chelsea the favourites. Another potentially interesting bet would be for the first goal to be scored in the first 15 minutes, as that would have been a winner in all three matches between the Arsenal and Chelsea this season.
Arsenal also look to have more attacking options than Chelsea but, whilst most eyes will be on Pierre Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette looks the best-value to score at any time. He’s scored half of Arsenal’s last eight goals in this year’s Europa League and, more importantly, he’s scored twice already against Chelsea this season.
