FA Cup Third Round Premier Preview

It’s time for some FA Cup fever again as the Third Round brings in the Premier League big boys, and there’s 5 all Premier League clashes to sink our teeth into this weekend. Spurs and Leicester could be the best of the bunch on Sunday, but we’ve also tips for all four games on Saturday.

FA Cup Arsenal Sunderland

Arsenal vs Sunderland (Saturday 3pm)
Sunderland fans will be hoping for a repeat of the 2012 clash which saw them emerge triumphant 2-0. However, that was a home tie and this time they must head to the Emirates to take on the side that has not only won the FA Cup a record 12 times, but also lifted the trophy 5 times since the turn of the Millennium, and in both the past 2 seasons. However, even at 12/1, it’s hard to recommend a punt on Sunderland as they’ve lost 4 of their last 5 away games, whilst Arsenal have won their last 4 home games. Sunderland, however, have drawn twice at the Emirates in the past 5 seasons – making 57/10 for the draw look a bit of value.

Norwich vs Man City (Saturday 3pm)
There’s not much recent history between the two sides, though Man City did beat Norwich 2-1 at home earlier this season, and won their 2007 League Cup clash 1-0. However, current form doesn’t make Man City look odds-on shots. Norwich have won 3 and drawn 2 of their last 5 home games, whilst Man City have won just once in their last 7 away games.

Southampton Vs Palace (Saturday 3pm)
Southampton have won 6 of the last 8 meetings between the two sides, though it was Palace who won this season’s game at Southampton, and they also won this exact fixture last season 3-2. Meanwhile, despite a 4-0 win over Arsenal, Southampton have lost 3 of their last 5 home games, whilst Palace have won 2 of their last 4 away games. Laying Southampton at slight odds-on or backing Palace was a tough choice – but I’ll opt for the bigger price and a Palace win.

Watford vs Newcastle (Saturday 3pm)
Both teams are blowing hot and cold at the moment with Watford having lost their last 2 home games, whilst Newcastle have managed to beat Bournemouth and Spurs in their last 5 away games (lost the other 3) – and the Magpies may just offer some value at 19/4.
Newcastle @ 19/4 (Marathon Bet)

Spurs vs Leicester (Sunday 4pm)
Leicester may have gone goal-shy in their last 3 games, but they’ve also only conceded 1 goal in those games, and 4/6 for a Spurs win looks on the short side. The two sides drew earlier in the season, and let’s not forget Leicester have only lost twice all season.
