Euro 2016 Match Previews Sun 12 June

Well Euro 2016 got off to a flyer for blog-followers yesterday with 3 winners (damn Russia), and we’ve got analysis and tips for all three of Sunday’s matches, which are Turkey vs Croatia, Poland vs Northern Ireland, and Germany vs Ukraine.

Turkey vs Croatia (2pm)

Match Betting Best Odds: Turkey 3/1, Draw 23/10, Croatia 6/5

Turkey took a while to get going in qualifying, but having finished strongly they managed to continue their good form into this year’s friendlies, winning 4 out of 5. Meanwhile, Croatia also managed to carry their impressive qualifying form into their pre-tournament friendlies, winning 4 and drawing 1. However, a look at past head-to-heads shows that Croatia won in Turkey 3-0 and drew 0-0 at home in 2012 Euro Qualifying, whilst the two teams drew 0-0 again in the 2008 Euros, and also drew again in a friendly in 2004. That makes the 23/10 for the draw looks a fair bet.

Draw @ 23/10  (Ladbrokes, Betfred)

Poland vs Northern Ireland (5pm)

Match Betting Best Odds: Poland 8/11, Draw 13/5, Northern Ireland 11/2

For a long time during qualifying, Poland looked likely to top their group, but second place behind Germany was certainly no disgrace. However, Northern Ireland were much more of a surprise package. Northern Ireland have managed to continue that form though, with 2 wins and 2 draws in their friendlies, whilst Poland’s recent loss to Holland and draw to Lithuania may boost confidence further. Poland did win their 2002 friendly 4-1, and won both of their 2006 World Cup Qualifiers, however Northern Ireland took 4 points off Poland in their 2010 World Cup Qualifiers. I do thinks that Poland have more quality players but, as I think they should be more like even-money, the draw again looks the value at 13/5.

Draw @ 13/5

Euro 2016Germany vs Ukraine (8pm)

Match Betting Best Odds: Germany 8/13, Draw 16/5, Ukraine 6/1

Albania, Romania, Wales and Cyprus aren’t footballing names that exactly set the pulse racing, but the Ukraine will still arrive here full of confidence after winning all 4 of their 2016 friendlies. Meanwhile, Germany’s friendlies were a mixed bag with a 4-1 defeat of Italy showing just what they’re capable of, yet they also lost to Slovakia and England. The two teams haven’t got much history, having just played a friendly in 2011, which finished 3-3. Germany are World Champions though, and are expected to regain the clinical efficiency they showed in Brazil 2014.
