Colsaerts Can Claim Second China Victory

Nicolas Colsaerts shone in the 2012 Ryder Cup and has long been considered a better player than he’s so far managed to prove.

Consistency isn’t his strong suits but his Volvo China Open records stands at 8/1/2. A good performance in Malaysia bodes well as a warm up for this week – and the powerful Belgian looks sure to arrive here fully-tuned for what is one of his favourite events. He knows he’s going to have to have a good spring and summer to make this year’s Ryder Cup Team and a win here will set him on his way.

Golf – PGA Tour – Zurich Classic (Thursday – Sunday)

New Orleans plays home to the PGA Tour this week and the TPC Louisiana course hosts the Zurich Classic for the eighth time. Previous winners include recent major champions Bubba Watson and Jason Dufner who won here respectively in 2011 and 2012, whilst Billy Horschel, Nick Watney, Jason Bohn, Tim Petrovich, Jerry Kelly and Andres Romero make up an eclectic octet that suggests the course doesn’t particularly favour any type of golfer.

One compellingly strong statistic of the event is that it often goes to a first-time winner, and eight of the last twelve winners have fitted that profile.

The TPC Louisiana course is a Pete Dye creation, but certainly not one of his toughest, and the winning score has between 13-under and 20-under. Meanwhile, the general consensus is that it favours someone who van manoeuvre their ball from right-to-left and hit plenty of greens.

Arguably the best maiden on the PGA Tour who fits the profile is Graham Delaet and the Canadian could, like so many before him use this event as a springboard to better things. He was also 4th here in 2012, so we know he’s more than capable of playing the course well.

Another maiden who’s been threatening leaderboards with some consistency of late is Russell Knox. 30th on his only visit here in 2012, his last five starts read 2/25/43/26/9, and another good performance looks perfectly feasible.

One player who fits none of the statistics but look ridiculously priced is Patrick Reed. The 23-year-old has already won three PGA events including the WGC at Doral and 40/1 looks plain crazy. Okay, so course form of 24/MC hardly set the pulse racing but he’s improved miles since then. Shunned for bragging he’s a top-5 player after his WGC victory – this is a good opportunity for him to prove his doubters wrong.

Graham DeLaet each-way 25/1

Russell Knox each-way 40/1

Patrick Reed each-way 40/1

Champions League – Real Madrid v Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich travel to Real Madrid tonight and whatever the result this should be a fantastic game of football. Both teams are wonderfully attacking exponents of the beautiful game and, despite being the away-team, I believe Bayern will enjoy playing a top-team who will be playing to beat them and come out on top.

Bayern Munich 2/1 or better

Horse Racing – Perth – 5pm

The last time Problematic ran at Perth it resulted in a victory off a mark of 132. Today, after a string of poor performances, he runs off a mark of 130. However, don’t let the poor performances put you off as it was a similar story before he won here last time.

Problematic each-way 10/1 or better
