Bubba Born To Shine At Bay Hill

The poor recent form of eight-time Bay Hill winner Tiger Woods will have his fellow players believing this could be a good time to wrestle the trophy from the great man’s grasp.

Top of the list of heir apparents is Bubba Watson whose recent form figures are 2/1/9/2, whilst his three year form figures at Bay Hill are 24/4/14. His fourth here came when he was very much in the type of form he’s in now, and it’s hard to imagine that he won’t be relishing the prospect of using his abundant shot-making abilities to challenge for the title.

I also can’t resist an interest in Chris Stroud who has been in consistent form of late around courses that he hasn’t particularly previously shined on. Bay Hill is much more up his street and I wouldn’t put anyone off dabbling at 66-1 each-way in the outright market. However, the best value may be the 5-1 about him posting a top-ten finish.

Bubba Watson 14/1 each-way

Chris Stroud 5-1 top-ten finish

Football – Champions League – Wednesday – 7.45pm

Manchester United have sunk to unimaginable depths this season – and they’ll be desperate to at least go one round further in the Champions League than neighbours Manchester City who found Barcelona too good last week. However, whether desperate is enough to motivate David Moyes’s beleaguered side to put in a performance that will see them overcome a 2-0 deficit from the away leg at Olympiakos is debatable. If United exit tonight, ending any hope of silverware this season, speculation will be rife that Moyes will shortly follow. Strangely, in the 1980’s, Alex Ferguson found himself in a similar position before winning the FA Cup – and Moyes may well have a last hurrah in him. On the plus side, United have managed to win all three of their home games in the Champions League games this season (averaging 2 goals a game), whilst they’ve won all previous ties against Greek opposition. This prognosis is buoyed further by Olympiakos’s record of losing all of their eleven matches in Britain. United are 1/2 to win the match and 2/1 to qualify for the next round, and the latter appeals the most.

Manchester United 2/1 to qualify for the next round

Horse Racing – Haydock – Wednesday

This Wednesday’s horse racing action may lack the salivating superstar standards of Sire De Grugy or Faugheen – but Haydock has at least attracted AP McCoy. The Champion jockey has five rides, three for Donald McCain and two for Brian Ellison, and it seems unlikely that he’ll make the long-journey home empty-handed. The Ellison pair, Presented (2.10) and Discovery Bay (3.40), are the most highly fancied of the quintet and an each-way double should make a small profit even if they both only manage a place.
