Are Arsene’s Days Numbered As Arsenal Manager?

A large proportion of Arsenal fans have been baying for Arsene Wenger’s head for a while now and, though for many he has underachieved in regard to winning trophies, he’s kept the money rolling-in thanks to his ability to finish in the top-4 in the Premier and achieve Champions League Qualification. However, with 12 games to go, Arsenal find themselves in fifth-place, 5 points behind Liverpool with 2 games in hand, and 6 points behind Tottenham and Manchester City with 1 game in hand. Therefore, it’s time to take a look at how the battle for Champions League spots might swing this weekend.

West Brom vs Arsenal (Saturday 12.30)

Arsenal have a chance to close the gap and apply the pressure on Liverpool, Tottenham and Man City with a lunchtime game against West Brom. They may be travelling to West Brom at just the right time too, as West Brom have lost their last 2 games, though they had won their 4 previous home games before losing 2-0 to Crystal Palace two weeks ago. However, Arsenal don’t know whether they’re coming or going at the minute as wins over Sutton, Lincoln and Hull don’t mask the fact they’ve been beaten 5-1 by Bayern Munich and 3-1 by both Liverpool and Chelsea in recent weeks. The last three renewals of this fixture have also produced 1 win each and a draw, which suggests West Brom can get something out of the game.

Tottenham vs Southampton (Sunday 2.15)

Southampton have won their last 2 away games 4-3 and 4-0, but they’ve generally struggled against top-6 opposition in the league this season, including losing the reverse fixture 4-1. Spurs have also won 8 Premier League home games on the trot, and have won 7 of their last 8 games against Southampton – all making the 8/11 for a Tottenham win look more than fair.

Manchester City vs Liverpool (Sunday 4.30)

A lot may depend on whether Man City have a Champions League hangover, or whether they come out all guns blazing. However, despite Liverpool’s inconsistencies, beating Arsenal and Tottenham but losing to Leicester and Hull in their last few games, Klopp has an amazing record of not losing to the other top-6 sides this season. Those recent wins against Arsenal and Tottenham are further testament to that, and Liverpool also beat Man City 1-0 in the reverse fixture earlier in the season. Therefore, the bet has to be to lay City.
