2018 World Cup Top Goalscorer Predictions

The World Cup in Russia is one of the most eagerly awaited events of 2018. However, whilst much of the betting will take place on the 2018 Outright Winner Market, Group Betting, and individual match betting – there’s also the chance to have a bet on the 2018 World Cup Top Goalscorer market.

2018 World Cup Top Goalscorer Betting Guide

Neymar 11/1, Lionel Messi 12/1, Christiano Ronaldo 16/1, Tino Werner 16/1, Harry Kane 20/1, Antoine Griezmann 20/1, Luis Suarez 28/1

The Brazilian may still only be 25, but 2018 could be his time to shine with Brazil qualifying easily for the World Cup Finals. The Brazilians have much to prove to the world after being humbled by Germany at the 2014 World Cup and, with Neymar having already scored over 50 goals for Brazil, over 100 goals for Barcelona, and finding the back of the net with frequent regularity at PSG, he’ll surely go close to landing the Golden Boot if Brazil make it to the latter stages. Scored 4 goals at the 2014 World Cup (the winner scored 6).

Lionel Messi

Messi will be the wrong side of 30 come Russia 2018 and, whilst he’s maybe not at his brilliant best any more, even that slightly reduced standard is a million miles better than most. The little Argentinean with stardust in his boots has scored over 360 goals for Barcelona at nearly goal a game. However, he only operates at around a goal every two games for Argentina.

Christiano Ronaldo

Scored over 500 goals in just over 700 appearances at club level in league and cup competitions, and has a better strike rate at international level than Messi with 79 goals in 147 appearances for Portugal. Scored 13 in 13 international appearances in 2016, and 11 goals in 11 international appearances in 2017 – so don’t discount another Ronaldo vintage display in 2018. However, he’s yet to win the Golden Boot at previous World Cups.

Timo Werner

The reigning World Cup Champions have unearthed a potential new star since 2014, and 21-year-old could spearhead the German attack in Russia. He’s certainly shown he knows how to find the goal at club and international level, and his countrymen Thomas Muller and Miroslav Klose respectively won the Golden Boot in 2006 and 2010.

Harry Kane

The English Premier League Golden Boot winner for the last two seasons, and may well make it a hat-trick in 2018 as he continues to find the net for both club and country. However, whilst some pundits hold him in the highest esteem, it has to be questionable if England will go far enough at the World Cup for him to score enough goals.

Antoine Griezmann

Operated at an average of a goal every 2 games for both club and country in the last two seasons. However, he won the Golden Boot at the 2016 Euros with 6 goals. If France go a long way in Russia in 2018, as expected, it is likely he will be amongst the goals again.

The 2014 World Cup was marred by the infamous Suarez biting incident but, whilst he’s not universally loved, his goal scoring talents have shone through at Ajax, Liverpool and Barcelona. He also averages more than a goal every 2 games at International level, and Uruguay have been drawn in the easiest looking group.

Neymar, Messi, Ronaldo, Werner, Griezmann, Kane and Suarez are 7 goal-scoring geniuses who could light up the 2018 World Cup. However, I think Ronaldo, Suarez and Kane may struggle to win the Golden Boot if Portugal, Uruguay and England don’t make it to at least the semi-finals. That leaves us with a Brazilian, an Argentinean, a German and a Frenchman – which could easily be the best four teams on show next year. Of the quartet, I just prefer Timo Werner, who is likely to get the best supply-line from the current champions, and Germans have won 2 of the last 3 Golden Boots.
