# What Is A Trixie Bet?

A Trixie Bet is an easy way to write out a bet that uses three selections you want to combine into three doubles and a treble with equal stakes on each bet. It saves you writing out four different bets if you’re betting in a high-street or on-course bookmakers, saying four different bets if you’re betting over the phone, or inputting four different bets if you’re betting online.

### How to Place a Trixie?

To place a Trixie, you must first come up with three selections. All three selections can be for the same sport, for example, horse racing. But many bookmakers will also let you combine selections from different sports into a Trixie, such as horse racing, football, and tennis.

You then need to decide how much you want to stake. If you’re placing a win Trixie, you can either decide how much you want to stake in total and divide it by four or you can decide how much you want to place on each double and treble and then multiply that stake by four to find the total cost of your Trixie.

If you want to place an each-way Trixie, you can either decide how much you want to stake in total and divide it by eight or you can decide how much you want to place on each double and treble and then multiply that stake by eight to find the total cost of your Trixie.

We’ve highlighted some simple costs of placing a Trixie in the table below:

Stake Per Double/TrebleTotal Cost Of Trixie
£1 win£4
£1 each way£8
£5 win£20
£5 each way£40
£10 win£40
£10 each way£80

### Winning From a Trixie Bet

When the first of your three selections in a Trixie bet wins it’s an exciting time, but you still haven’t won any money at this point. That’s because you need at least two selections to win to land the first of your three doubles.

When the first two selections win you are guaranteed to collect some money, but the real excitement comes from watching the third selection. If the last of your three selections wins, you’ll then land all four bets of your Trixie, three doubles and a treble.

Of course, if you’ve placed an each-way Trixie, you are also guaranteed to collect some money if two or more of your selections are placed. However, if one of your selections wins and one places, you will only land the place part of your each-way double. Equally, if one of your selections wins and your other two selections place, you will land three place doubles and one place treble. You can also have two winners and one placed selection, which will result in one winning double, two place doubles, and one place treble.

### Trixie Bet with Singles

This bet is called a Patent. If you place a patent, you are placing three singles, three doubles and a treble, so seven bets. This means you’ll need to multiply your stake by seven to find the cost of your total bet or by 14 if you’re placing an each-way Patent.

The advantage of placing a Patent rather than a Trixie is you get a return if only one of your selections wins or places.

The advantage of placing a Trixie rather than a Patent, is you can afford to stake more on the doubles and trebles, winning more if all three of your selections are winners.
