FA Cup Fourth Round Predictions
Published on 26/01/18
The last 32 teams in the FA Cup do battle for places in the fifth-round this weekend, and we’ve analysis and tips for Middlesbrough vs Brighton, Southampton vs Watford, and Cardiff vs Manchester City.
Middlesbrough vs Brighton (Saturday 3.00)
The bookies are of the opinion that being in eighth-place in the Championship makes you favourites when playing at home against the sixteenth-placed team in the Premier League, but only time will tell if that’s correct. Middlesbrough certainly had the upper-hand in their most recent matches, winning their last 3 away games at Brighton, but only drawing their last two home games against The Seagulls. However, it’s worth noting that only one team scored in 3 of those 5 games. Middlesbrough are also a hard team to predict having won 3 and lost 3 of their last 6 home matches in the Championship, with only one team scoring in each of those 6 matches. Meanwhile, Brighton have failed to hit the net in their last 6 away games in the Premier League. Therefore, the best bet looks to be for both teams not to score.

Southampton vs Watford (Saturday 3.00)
Watford’s early season form has tailed-off so much that Marco Silva has been replaced by new manager Javi Garcia, who takes charge of his tenth senior team since 2007. Only time will tell if that’s a serious error by Watford, but they probably thought they had to do something after a run of 11 Premier League games without a win, a run which includes 5 straight away defeats. Southampton aren’t in much better form though, with just 3 draws from their last 5 home games, and still sit 4 points below Watford in the Premier League Table. Watford have also taken four points from the two games between the sides this season and, as Southampton are odds-on, despite losing at home to Watford in September, the draw looks worth chancing at a much bigger price.

Cardiff vs Manchester City (Sunday 4.00)
The two teams last met in the 2013/14 Premier League season, when Cardiff won their home game 3-2 before later losing 4-2 at Manchester City. Cardiff are currently making a decent attempt to return to the Premier League, and are on target to at least make the play-offs, though are also within 2 points of second-placed Derby. Their recent home form is a little worrying though having lost 2 and drawn 1 of their last 5 home games. Meanwhile, Man City are still coasting to Premier League success and, as Pep Guardiola maintains City are still targeting the Quadruple, City should be able to win this to nil on their way to the fifth round.
