Euro 2016 Semi-Finals
Published on 05/07/16
The Semi-finals of Euro 2016 are upon us and, whilst France vs Germany would have been the favourite to be one semi-final, few would have predicted that the other would have been contested by Wales and Portugal. However, Wales have certainly acquired plenty of admirers with their 3 attacking performances since they lost to England with a negative display, whilst we can only hope that France score early in the other semi as this could set-up this match between the tournament’s two best teams to be an absolute epic.
Portugal vs Wales
Match Betting: Portugal 5/4, Draw 21/10, Wales 16/5
This is a match that was instantly billed as Ronaldo vs Bale but, whilst the two Real Madrid stars will probably have a major influence on which one of these two teams makes it to the final, both teams success so far has been based on a good team ethic. Amazingly, Portugal have drawn all 5 of their games at the 90-minute stage, scraping through the group-stages, and needing extra-time against Croatia, and penalties against Portugal. Meanwhile, Wales have yet to draw any game. They may have lost to England in their second group game, but a change of tactics since then has seen them light-up the tournament – and anyone who isn’t French, German or Portuguese will probably be supporting them. Wales, who haven’t got the all-round technical ability of the Portuguese, will not want this to go penalties – and I fully expect them to adopt the attacking style they did against Belgium. If they do, there must be a great chance that both teams will score, and the 5/4 for that to happen looks a value bet.

France vs Germany
Match Betting: France 9/5, Draw 21/10, Germany 2/1
France will be looking to exact revenge for their 1-0 defeat to Germany in the 2014 World Cup Finals, and confidence is high after their 5-2 victory over Iceland, which was accomplished with flair. However, they haven’t played anyone of note so far, and the Germans are likely to exploit their defensive frailties at some point. Meanwhile, the Germans are also pretty mean in defence, and it took 440 minutes of play at the tournament before Italy managed to breakthrough, and that was from the penalty spot. However, Giroud, Payet and Griezmann are all scoring freely, and the eve-money for both teams to score again looks the value. Let’s just hope France score early – as this could be an absolute epic if they do. However, if you want to hedge your bet, if someone is to win to nil it will probably be Germany at 7/2.
