Monday 20th June is D-Day for England in Euro 2016 and, whilst their current position atop the group means they’ve got their destiny in their own hands, they’ll definitely want to stay top of the group to avoid a much trickier route to the final than if they finish second or third. Meanwhile, it is still possible that any combination of two or three teams could qualify from the group, and all teams have plenty to play for.

Euro 2016Russia vs Wales (8pm)

Russia 28/17, Draw 23/10, Wales 21/10

The two teams have met four times this century, and they fought out two low-scoring affair for the 2004 European Championship Qualifying, with Russia winning the away leg 1-0, whilst they drew 0-0 in Russia. However, it was a completely different story in their 2010 World Cup Qualifying games with Russia wining 2-1 at home and 3-1 in Wales. Neither team entered the tournament in the best of form, but the return of Gareth Bale has given Wales a great chance of qualifying for the knockout stages, and it’s obvious he’s made the difference in their improved performances. Meanwhile, Russia have drawn 2 and lost 3 of their last 5 matches, but have now scored in their last 12 matches, whilst Wales tend to score with Bale in the team. Both teams have also scored in both their games so far, and the 11/10 that both teams score again looks the value bet.

Euro 2016England vs Slovakia (8pm)

Match Betting: England 4/5, Draw 5/2, Slovakia 5/1

Slovakia took the scalps of Iceland, Switzerland and Germany in pre-tournament friendlies, but lost to Wales in their opening game, before beating Russia in their last game, which is something England couldn’t do in their opening game. However, you have to say that England should have beaten Russia, and they know that a victory here is what they need to top the group and get the easier passage through the rest of the tournament. England may not have completely impressed in all departments as Roy Hodgson has struggles to find his perfect team but, having beaten Wales, Portugal, Australia, Turkey, Germany and France in their last 7 games, a good performance should guarantee the win and cement their position as group leaders – but I doubt they’ll make it quite as easy as I’ve just made it sound.

England @ 4/5
