Dubai Horse Racing : UAE 2000 Guineas Preview
The UAE 2000 Guineas (16:50 uk time Sat 11th Feb 2017) was first run at Nad Al Sheba in 2000, before being transferred to Meydan in 2010 where it was run on a synthetic Tapeta surface until the track was changed to dirt in 2015. It is a group-3 race run over a mile, and the leading trainer is Saeed Bin Suroor with 5 winners, whilst owners Goldolphin have had 7 winners. Mickael Barzalona is the leading jockey with a ride with 3 winners.
11 runners are set to go to post for the 2017 UAE 2000 Guineas.
Won a maiden on second of three starts for Ed Walker in Britain, but over 14-lengths behind Fly At Dawn in the UAE 2000 Guineas Trial.
Finished 1/1/2 in three Stakes races in the USA before finishing only 10th of 12th when upped in class at Churchill Downs. Only sent-off at 10/1 that day though and, as he was obviously expected to run better than he did, he’s an interesting outsider.
Has plenty of winning form to his name in his native country, but finished 15-lengths behind Fly At Dawn in the UAE 2000 Guineas Trial.
Quickly made-up into a useful horse after winning a maiden here and finishing second behind Fly At Dawn in the UAE 2000 Guineas Trial. Better drawn than that re-opposing rival here, and could still have loads of improvement to come.
British form has a solid look to it with placed efforts behind Rivet and Churchill, and won a French Group 1 on his final start. Yet to race on dirt, but has a favourites chance if taking to it on his first attempt.
Improved with each of his three runs, but has something to find on form-lines with Rivet in England, and when behind Cosmo Charlie here at Meydan.
Winner of an all-weather maiden in England, but finished further behind Rivet than several of these, and didn’t look-up to winning this on his Meydan debut last-time.
Won his maiden at the third attempt on the all-weather in England, but that form leaves him with a lot to find in the context of this race.
Group-3 winner in England and group-1 runner-up in France, and sent-off second favourite for the UAE 2000 Guineas Trial on the back of that. However, finished well-behind Fly At Dawn and Cosmo Charlie that day.
Placed on both starts at Meydan, but form behind Cappezano leaves him with plenty to find.
Fly At Dawn
The biggest-priced of 3 Godolphin runners when winning the UAE 2000 Guineas Trial, and has already proven his stamina for a mile by winning a nursery in England. Widest draw may make it harder for him.
2017 UAE 2000 Guineas Summary
7-time winners Godolphin cloud the issue by running 4 horses, and it’s hard to know which one is fancied the most with William Buick on Fly At Dawn and Christophe Soumillon on Thunder Snow. However, as Fly At Dawn has the widest draw, and Thunder Snow is unproven on the dirt, I’m happy to give a chance to Cosmo Charlie who looks capable of further improvement from a good draw in stall-4. If you fancy one at a bigger price – then Han Sense makes most appeal.
