Cyprus vs Scotland Match Details
Cyprus vs Scotland takes place at the GSP Stadium in Nicosia on Saturday 16 November. Kick-off 2.00pm.
Group I is one of the most imbalanced Euro 2020 qualifying groups, with Belgium and Russia proving head and shoulders above the other four teams. However, the teams in third, fourth, and fifth have also had the pleasure of picking up points against minnows San Marino.
Cyprus have taken six points off San Marino, but they’ve also taken four points off Kazakhstan. Apart from a 5-0 beating by Russia, they’ve not conceded more than two goals to any team. They also looked exceptionally unlucky to lose 2-1 in Scotland, where they lost to an 89th minute goal.
Cyprus also have the added motivation of knowing that winning this game is their only real chance of finishing above Scotland, as they must play Belgium in their last match in Group I.
Scotland have also lost all four games against Russia and Belgium and they too have taken six points off San Marino. Their other win came in the aforementioned home match against Cyprus, but Scotland were embarrassed at home when losing 3-0 to Kazakhstan. They face Kazakhstan again in their final group match.
Cyprus vs Scotland Head-To-Heads
Scotland and Cyprus have played each other six times before, and Scotland have a magnificent record having won all six of those games. They’ve also outscored Cyprus heavily by 22 goals to five.
But not many of those head-to-heads have much relevance in revealing the current merits of the two sides. The penultimate encounter was a friendly in 2011, when Cyprus lost 2-1 at home. Of course, it was a similar score-line when the two sides met earlier in qualifying, with Scotland winning 2-1 at home.
