The first two positions in Groups A & B in the 2019 Copa America have been decided, but the final two games in Group C late on Monday night/Tuesday morning will decide a variety of possible outcomes.
The match between Ecuador and Japan will determine whether one of those two teams or Paraguay from Group B will progress to the quarter-finals as one of the two best third-placed teams. Meanwhile, anything but a defeat for Chile in their match with Uruguay would mean they play Peru in the quarter-finals, rather than Brazil.

Chile vs Uruguay
Chile and Uruguay have played each other in two of the last three editions of the Copa America. The first of those was in 2011 in Argentina when they played each other in their opening group game, with the match ending 1-1. Chile qualified top of the group but were beaten by Venezuela in the quarter-finals, whilst Uruguay went on to win the tournament.
Chile were the host nations when they met again in Copa America 2015, and Chile again topped their group, whilst Uruguay qualified for the quarter-finals in third place in their group. This time, it was Chile who won on their way to winning the tournament.
Chile were again the tournament winners in 2016, where Uruguay failed to even make the knockout stages. The two teams also met in World Cup qualifying in 2015 and 2016, with Uruguay winning their home leg 3-0, whilst Chile won their home match 3-1.
Their group matches so far in Copa America 2019 have also been a contrast, with Chile beating Japan 4-0, whilst Uruguay could only draw with Japan 2-2. However, Uruguay beat Ecuador 4-0, whilst Chile only overcame the same side 2-1.
The bookies have Uruguay as favourites, and FIFA’s eighth-best team in the world rankings probably deserve to be as they sit eight places higher than Chile. However, it’s hard to see Chile surrendering their top-spot in Group C without a serious fight, especially as they’re on a hat-trick of Copa America titles.
Considering that all four matches in Group C so far have produced at least three goals, and the last two matches between the two sides have produced three and four goals, it’s surprising to see the bookies offering even-money or better about more than 2.5 goals. The winners avoid a match with Brazil in the quarter-finals and that should be enough motivation for both teams to give it their all.
Ecuador vs Japan
Ecuador and Japan both looked to have blown their chances of making it to the 2019 Copa America knockout stages in their opening matches as they stumbled to 4-0 defeats against Uruguay and Chile. However, both performed much better in their second matches and now find themselves just a victory away from progressing to the knockout stages.
Ecuador are the favourites with the bookies and playing in South America may be a big advantage to them. But they are ranked 32 placed below Japan in the World Rankings and have found winning difficult.
Meanwhile, Japan are also not in the best of form, but two wins in their pre-tournament friendlies and their draw against Uruguay means they may have been underrated.
A draw is no good for either team, as that result would mean Paraguay would qualify from B, so a bet on Japan looks the value bet at any price bigger than 2/1.
