Can Germany Win The 2018 World Cup?
Published on 06/12/17
Germany are without doubt one of the most successful international football teams, with 4 World Cup Wins and 3 European Championship wins already. Notoriously experimental during qualifying, they have a reputation of turning up finely-tuned for the finals. However, after securing a 100% record of 10 wins from 10 games during 2018 World Cup Qualifying, scoring 43 goals in the process, it’s easy to see why nearly every bookmaker has priced-up the FIFA World Number 1 Ranked Team as favourite or joint favourites.
What Stage Will Germany Be Eliminated 2018 World Cup Betting
10/3 Last-6, 10/3 Quarter-Finals, 10/3 Semi-Finals, 5/1 Runners-Up, 5/1 Winners, 7/1 Group Stages
However, Germany have been drawn in Group F, and they could have been drawn in easier groups than one that contains Mexico, Sweden and South Korea.
Germany will still be fancying their chances though, as they recently won the Confederations Cup in Russia, beating Mexico 4-1 on their way to that success.
Mexico have qualified for each of the last 6 World Cups though, qualifying from their group on all 6 occasions. They failed to go past the last-16 though in those 6 appearances, but their best efforts saw them reach the quarter-finals in 1970 and 1986.
Meanwhile, Sweden were considered not good enough to qualify for the finals without Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but the absence of Sweden’s most gifted striker only seemed to spur his fellow countrymen on, with coach Janne Andersson gelling his remaining players together as a much better unit without him, one that Italy couldn’t breakdown in the play-offs.
Last but not least, South Korea maintained their record of qualifying for every World Cup since 1986, but it wasn’t plain sailing after early defeats to China and Qatar saw Shin Tae-yong promoted to first-team coach from U-23 Coach. He steadied the ship, with a draw in their final qualifying match securing a place in the finals. However, this does not look one of the better South Korean teams to have made the finals, even though they have three English Premier League regulars.
The 7/1 for Germany to exit at the Group Stage isn’t at all tempting, as they will be confident that they should easily beat South Korea, and have already outclassed Mexico once this year. They also have more players who can unlock teams than Italy, and Sweden should also pose few problems. However, despite winning in Brazil 2014, Germany did succumb to France in 2016 after a hard game against Italy in the quarter-finals, and could yet be vulnerable in the latter stages – with a semi-final exit fancied to offer the best-value.
