Current UK soap opera star, and massive boxing fan, Jake Wood, along with current Sky sports Boxing pundit, Spencer Oliver, have both teamed up to organise a night of celebrity boxing.
The duo formed ‘Boxing With The Stars’ during Jake’s year-long sabbatical from Eastenders, with their first event being shown last October, which saw the star put up a great fight in a charity boxing match, which ended in a draw.
That particular event proved to be highly successful, so much so that the pair decided to continue on with the showcase, which saw many other celebrities attempt their hand at boxing. Those celebrities who took part were Love Island’s Nathan Massey, Former TOWIE star Lewis Bloor, and also Heavy D.
In a statement given to World Boxing News, Spencer had spoken about how the duo created the event, he says:
“Jake’s been a good mate of mine for about eight or nine years and he was doing a PA thing as he was having a year’s break from EastEnders, which was also the year he did Strictly. We were driving and he said, ‘I fancy having a fight before I begin my new contract’,”
“He wanted to go through the layers because he’s a massive boxing fan. So, we got him a guy who was in my gym, a bit bigger than him and was very strong. Jake sparred him and it seemed a bit tough but he said he wanted to do it.
He goes on to add: “Jake went through the layers, he had to get himself back up off the floor in the third round and it ended up being a draw. It was great fun and that’s where it all came from,”
The two are now both preparing their next roundup of celebrities and fights, for another instalment of ‘Boxing with the Stars’, which takes place on Friday 13th October at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, in London. The night will feature even more celebrities, consisting of Katie Price, Wayne Bridge, Dan Osborne, Bianca Gascoigne, Dean Edwards and many other famous TV stars.
Although the night allows celebrity drama and beef to become settled, which we all secretly adore, it has an incredibly great cause behind it. The pair have decided that all money raised from the night, which also includes drink receptions, a 3-course meal and an after party, will go towards the fantastic charity; Isabel Hospice.
The pair have stated that the charity have helped massively with members of their friends and family, so making a fantastic donation was something that they are passionate for.
